The NFL offers up another case for why Thursday night football should be abolished when it sends the 1-4 Redskins - err, the Commanders - against the 2-3 Bears at Soldier Field. Chicago is scuffling along with one of the worst professional passing attacks we've seen in some time, while Washington can't seem to get out of its own way.

However, in doing our homework for this contest, we found what looks like a good betting lean.

NFL Betting Lines

The Week 6 NFL betting odds opened Chicago as a one-point favorite for Thursday night, with an over/under of right around 37.5. Both figures were holding steady in the early betting action.

Commanders-Bears NFL Betting Preview

Washington is 1-4 on the season after losing at home to Tennessee last Sunday 21-17. The Commanders gave up the first seven points of the game, later led 10-7 but gave up a touchdown just before the half to trail 14-10 into the locker room. Washington then took a 17-14 lead late in the third quarter, fell down again a few minutes later, then drove to the Titans' 1-yard line in the final seconds but threw an interception and lost.

Washington actually out-gained Tennessee 385-241 but got out-rushed 105-43 and converted on just 1/11 third-downs.

The Commanders have actually out-gained three of their five opponents this season and out-rushed two of their last three foes. But they also own a -7 turnover ratio already.

Two weeks ago, Washington only trailed Dallas by five points through three quarters but lost 22-10. Three weeks ago, the Commanders stunk in a 24-8 loss to Philadelphia. And four weeks ago, they fell behind to Detroit 20-0, rallied to within one score three times in the second half but lost 36-27.

So Washington lugs a four-game losing skid into Thursday night.

Chicago, meanwhile, is 2-3 on the season after losing at Minnesota Sunday 29-22. The Bears gave up touchdowns on the first three Vikings possessions of the game and trailed 21-3 in the second quarter. Chicago then scored the next 19 points of the game to lead 22-21 with nine minutes left but gave up a Vikings score with two minutes remaining, then had a last-gasp drive halted by a strip-fumble inside Minnesota territory.

The Bears got out-gained by the Vikings 429-271, out-rushed 117-78, and lost time of possession by a 37:23 split. But they did manage to push the spread as seven-point dogs.

Chicago has now been out-gained and out-rushed by four of its five opponents this season.

Two weeks ago, the Bears settled for four field goals and lost to the Giants 20-12. Three weeks ago, Chicago needed a field goal at the buzzer to beat a 1-3-1 Houston team 23-20. And four weeks ago, the Bears lost at Green Bay 27-10.

At 2-3, Chicago is a few plays away from 3-2 and from 1-4.

Commanders-Bears Recent History

Washington beat Chicago seven times in a row from 2004-16, but the Bears won the most recent meeting three seasons ago 31-15. Mitch Trubisky quarterbacked Chicago that night against Case Keenum for the Redskins.
Commanders vs. Bears Betting Predictions 10/13/22

Chicago owns the better record here and home-field advantage but also the worst passing game in the League and the second-worst run defense. Washington, meanwhile, may only own one victory so far this season, but it's lost three close ones and has out-gained three of five foes. The Commanders might also be due for a little better luck, turnover-wise. This game could very well get ugly, and we like Coach Rivera in ugly games. We're betting Washington Thursday night.
