The 49ers have averaged 32.7 ppg over their past 3 games with QB Jimmy Garoppolo under center. They are also 4-0 SU with him as the starter. He has been able to do a lot in the passing game without an elite corps of receivers to throw to. WR Marquise Goodwin has emerged as the top wideout and rookie TE George Kittle has also become a favorite target. Garoppolo also isn’t averse to throwing to his backs. The Rams allow 212 ypg through the air so San Francisco will need to m ix in plenty of run plays as I don’t think they can consistently move the ball through the air against this defense. 49er QBs have also been sacked an alarming 43 times while Los Angeles has accumulated 48 sacks on defense. Garoppolo will need to get rid of the ball quickly and look for the offense to involve moving pockets on certain pass plays. RB Carlos Hyde has been the lead back most of the year but rookie RB Matt Breida has been eating into his carries. The Rams allow 119 ypg on the ground so look for Hyde and Breida to get lots of carries.

LA’s offense has been running through RB Todd Gurley in recent weeks. He ran for 118 yards against the Titans and also caught 10 passes for 158 yards and 2 scores. He leads the NFL with 1,305 rushing yards and will be a real threat against a San Francisco defense that allows 117 ypg on the ground. QB Jared Goff has a 28-7 TD/INT ratio and a QB rating of 100.5 and should do well against this young secondary (241 passing ypg). Rookie WR Cooper Kupp leads the team with 869 receiving yards while Sammy Watkins has 8 receiving TDs. Before injury, WR Robert Woods was the best wideout on the club. Gurley leads the team with 64 receptions so the defense has to account for him in both phases of the game. Goff has been sacked 25 times while the 49ers have gotten to opposing QBs 27 times. The defense may have to blitz more to get to Goff.
