Kansas City won the AFC West with a 29-13 victory over Miami last Sunday. Denver had no answers in a 27-11 loss to Washington last week. The Chiefs won the Week 8 matchup 29-19.

The key to Kansas City’s recent resurgence is their play on offense. KC has averaged 29 ppg over their past 4 games, 3 of them wins. QB Alex Smith went through a mid-season funk but has bounced back in a big way over the past month. The Broncos pass defense is still amongst the league leaders in yardage allowed but only the Giants have given up moiré passing TDs than Denver’s 29. WR Tyreek Hill and TE Travis Kelce have both topped 1,000 receiving yards and they will be a handful for the defense to deal with. RB Kareem Hunt has also added 53 receptions and is as big a threat through the air as he is on the ground. He is also 2nd in the NFL with 1,292 rushing yards and while the Broncos are 3rd in the NFL in rushing yards allowed (88 ypg), I expect Hunt to break some long runs this week. Denver’s defense has produced 31 sacks (20th in NFL) and Smith’s escapibility will give them problems.

The Broncos offense has been hampered by poor QB play and last week was no exception. QB Brock Osweiler was 22-38 last week and tossed an interception. Denver QBs have a poor 17-20 TD/INT ratio and Osweiler figures to have trouble with a pass defense that has allowed 21 TD passes but also picked off 14 passes. WRs Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders are still legitimate weapons but have been victims of the poor play at QB. RB C.J. Anderson has rushed for 88 and 158 yards over the past 2 weeks and figures to be the focal point of the offense this week. The Chiefs will look to contain Anderson first and take their chances with Osweiler.

Kansas City at Denver Prediction
Kansas City can’t improve their playoff seeding but I don’t see them rolling over in this one. Smith may not play the whole game but the Chiefs still have plenty of weapons to get the job done against a demoralized opponent. The Broncos suffered through an 8-game losing streak before 2 wins against poor opponents (NYJ, IND) missing their starting QBs but crashed against a mediocre and injury-riddled Redskins squad. This is a rivalry game but I see KC coming out and trying to keep their winning streak going.
