Jacksonville Jaguars at Philadelphia Eagles Point Spread Pick
Betting Odds

The upstart Jaguars, who should almost be 3-0 on the season, get a chance to show what they’ve got when they take on what many are calling the best team in the NFC at the moment, the 3-0 Eagles, Sunday afternoon in Philly. Jacksonville just snapped an 18-game road-losing skid with a big win on the West Coast last week. But can the young Jags avoid a letdown at one of the more challenging places to play in the League? Here’s how we home-worked this contest with our free JAGS/Eagles pick.

Jaguars Betting Preview

Jacksonville is 2-1 on the season after spanking a banged-up Chargers team out in Los Angeles last Sunday 38-10. The Jaguars, playing as 6.5-point underdogs, scored the first 13 points of the game and led 16-7 at the half. Jacksonville then allowed the Chargers to get within 16-10 early in the third quarter but scored the last 22 points of the game to close out its first win on the road since Week 15 of the 2019 season. The Jags also cashed in at +220 on the NFL betting money line. Jacksonville out-gained Los Angeles 413-312, out-rushed the Chargers 151-26, held a 38:22 time of possession advantage, and won the turnover battle 2-0, creating a +10 points differential. The Jaguars opened this season, their first under former Philadelphia HC Pederson, with a 28-22 loss at Washington, a game they led with two minutes to go. Jacksonville then opened some eyes with a 24-0 shutout over Indianapolis. So the Jags are really only a couple plays away from being 3-0.

Eagles Betting Preview

The Eagles, meanwhile, are 3-0 on the season after winning at Washington last Sunday 24-8. Philadelphia scored the first 24 points of the game, led 24-0 at the half, then basically maintained from there for the W and the cover at -6. The Eagles out-gained the Commanders 400-240, and most of the yardage the Philly defense allowed came in garbage time. That unit also recorded nine sacks. Philadelphia opened this season with a 38-35 win at Detroit, a game it led by 17 through three quarters. The Eagles then disposed of Minnesota 24-7, covering easily at -2.5. Philly has out-gained its first three opponents by an average of 150 yards per game.

Jaguars-Eagles Recent History

These teams last met back in 2018, a 24-18 Philadelphia victory. Carson Wentz quarterbacked the Eagles that day against Blake Bortles for Jacksonville. Neither of those guys will play a part in Sunday’s game.

Jacksonville at Philadelphia Prediction ATS 10/2/22
Philadelphia is the better team in this match-up and should win this game. The Eagles own the No. 1 offense in the League and the No. 5 defense. Jacksonville, meanwhile, is a nice story at the moment and seems headed in a good direction. But asking this young Jaguars team to get up for another even bigger road game a week after the win at the Chargers might be asking too much. We’re giving the points here with Philly.
