Green Bay at Minnesota Game Overview

<p>
Green Bay is one of the top favorites to win the NFC this season, but it had its hands full last Sunday on the road against Jacksonville in a 27-23 victory as a 4.5-point favorite. This was a back-and-forth affair where neither team ever led by more than seven points. The total ended up going OVER the closing 47-point line on a late Jaguars’ field goal. The Packers are now 5-2 both straight-up and against the spread in their last seven road games.

<p>
There is a reason why Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers is a perennial All-Pro in this league and even though he only threw for 199 yards in last Sunday’s win, his two touchdown throws and one touchdown run proved to be the difference. The Packers were held to only 95 yards on the ground on 25 attempts, but they made the most of the total yards they gained on the scoreboard. Green Bay did give up a 300-yard passing day to Blake Bortles, but it held the Jaguars to just 48 yards on the ground.

<p>
Minnesota is also off to a 1-0 start with a 25-16 victory against Tennessee this past Sunday and it easily covered as a 2.5-point favorite on the road. The total in this game went OVER the 40-point line. The Vikings will now open their home schedule at the brand new US Bank Stadium with a 9-3 SU record in their last 12 home games and an 11-3 record ATS in their last 14 games played at home.

<p>
Vikings’ head coach Mike Zimmer decided to stick with Shaun Hill as his starting quarterback against the Titans in place of an injured Teddy Bridgewater instead of going with newly acquired Sam Bradford. That decision paid off with Hill completing 18-of-33 attempts for 236 yards, but the team’s vaunted ground sputtered with just 65 yards on 28 rushing attempts. Lead back Adrian Peterson was held to just 31 yards on 19 carries. Credit the Vikings’ defense for holding Tennessee to 316 yards of total offense.

Green Bay at Minnesota Free Pick

Neither team in this division clash was at its best on opening day, but they both found ways to come away with a win. I would expect a much better showing from both under the prime time lights of US Bank Stadium, but in the end I still have the slight edge going to Green Bay as the better all-around team.

Look for Rodgers to have a big night in Minnesota’s new digs with the memory of that late-season loss to the Vikings last season that cost Green Bay the NFC North title still pretty fresh in his head. Lay the points on the road team with the Packers winning both SU and ATS.
