Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins Betting Odds - Point Spread Pick

Dallas lost a tough one at home last Sunday, 20-19 to the Giants. Washington was thumped 38-16 at home by Pittsburgh on Monday night.

The Cowboys offense wants to ride rookie RB Ezekiel Elliott but the results were uneven last week. He ran for 51 yards on 20 carries and scored on an 8-yard run. The Redskins were gashed badly by the Steelers (30-147, 4.9 ypc), this after they ranked 31st in ypc in 2015. They will have to focus their defensive approach on stopping the run. They don’t have to fear the Dallas passing attack like they did Pittsburgh’s so they should be able to contain Elliott. OLBs Ryan Kerrigan and Preston Smith can bring heat off the edge but the defense has to contain rookie QB Dak Prescott in the pocket. The youngster had a decent first game but also threw 20 incompletions and didn’t throw downfield very much. While WR Dez Bryant is a great player, he had only one catch for 8 yards. He just isn’t the same player when QB Tony Romo is out.

Washington abandoned the run early last week (12 carries) because they were behind early but they will want to stick with it longer in this matchup. The Cowboys allowed 113 rushing yards (4.7 ypc) to the Giants, a team not known for their running game. QB Kirk Cousins threw for 308 yards in the opener but also tossed a couple of picks. He had a 16-2 TD/INT ratio in 2015 at home and should bounce back. WRs Pierre Garcon, DeSean Jackson and Jamison Crowder combined for 18 catches and 211 yards last week and Dallas doesn’t have the depth to cover them all. TE Jordan Reed has emerged with Cousins under center and had 7 receptions for 64 yards against the Steelers. Dallas didn’t have a sack last week as their best pass rushers are suspended.

Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins Free Pick
Washington is 8-3 ATS in the last 11 games they have hosted Dallas. Cousins played very well at home last season and I expect him to bounce back from a subpar performance. He wasn’t sacked in the opener and faces a team limited in pass rushers. The Skins have to stay with the run as they became too one-dimensional vs. Pittsburgh. Also, look for CB Josh Norman to stay with Bryant after WR Antonio Brown lit up the Redskins without Norman covering him.
