Outlook for Monday Night Kickoff

The Bears head to the Nation's Capital on Monday night to face the 0-2 Redskins, who have struggled on defense and have had almost no run game to speak of. The Bears were very close to 0-2 as well but stole a win in Denver over the Broncos last week winning 16-14 where Mitchell Trubisky led them to a 4th quarter comeback with less than a minute left where they kicked a 53-yard game-winning field goal. The Bears have really not changed from last season, as they have a great defense but offensive issues. They have only given up 24 points in two games, but they have also only scored 19 points. While the Redskins have played two solid teams in the Eagles and Cowboys, they have given up at least 31 points in each of their two games. If you want a stat to show how bad their run game has been, there are 37 running backs in the league that have more rushing yards than the whole Redskins' team. On top of that their top guy, this season in Derrius Guice is out for several weeks with a knee injury after he missed all of last season with a knee injury. These teams have not met since the 2016 season in Chicago where the Redskins beat the Bears 41-21. How the Public is Betting the Bears/Redskins Game The early point spread betting was balanced, but more Bears money later in the week has driven the line up to Chicago -5.5. The total opened as high as 42.5 at some betting shops but has fallen to 41or 41.5 at many sportsbooks.

Injury Concerns

Bears: The Bears have not had many injury concerns in the early going this season. That said DT Bilal Nichols and DB Jomon Dotson are both listed as questionable for this game. Redskins: The Redskins have already been struck by injuries, as Derrius Guice is not only on the IR, but ten players are as well. On top of that LB Cassanova McKinzy, CB Quinton Dunbar, CB Fabian Moreau, and TE Jordan Reed are all out for the Monday night's game. DE Jonathan Allen, is questionable.

When the Bears Have the Ball

The Bears only totaled 273 yards of total offense in the win over the Broncos in their last game, and while Mitchell Trubisky was solid in the previous drive, he only passed for 120 yards. In two games he has yet to throw a TD pass. Chicago rushed for a solid 154 yards in the Denver win, but lead RB David Montgomery, who led the team with 62 yards, only averaged 3.4 yards per carry and 46 rushing yards came on one carry. The Bears will look to get it together on the offensive side of the football and will be facing a Redskins defense that has given up the 3rd most yards in the first two games of the season. When the Redskins Have the Ball Before the season the big question for the Redskins was will rookie Dwayne Haskins get on the field to take over for Case Keenum? Through two games Keenum has been one of the few bright spots, and he has passed for 601 yards with five TD, and he has not been intercepted. Washington has a less than stellar WR corps, and they still have not seen star TE Jordan Reed, who is listed as questionable in this game. The Redskins have rushed for only 75 yards in two games, and Adrian Peterson leads the team with 25 rushing yards. Washington will be going up against a Chicago defense that has played great against the run and has given up the 4th fewest yards over two games.

Betting Trends

The Bears have failed to cover the spread in their last five games facing the Redskins, but the road team has covered in seven of the previous nine meetings between these teams. Not only are the Bears 4-1 ATS in their last five Monday night games, they face a Redskins team that has not only failed to cover in four of their last five home games but has not covered in 21 of their last 28 Monday night games. While the total has gone Over in the Bears previous seven games, overall, the Redskins have an Over record of 4-1 in their last five home games.

Weather Report

On Monday the game-time temperature is forecasted to be in the high 70's. Kickoff is slated to be partly cloudy with a 4% chance of rain.

Bears vs. Redskins Prediction Week 3

The Bears have put up a combined 19 points in their two games this season, but they have played some decent defenses going up against the Packers (35 points allowed in three games) and the Broncos. They'll face a Washington defense that has allowed over 30 points to both opponents this season, so this may be a breakout game for the Chicago offense.

The 'Skins have moved the ball adequately through the air, and the offensive line has been solid, allowing just two sacks with 81 pass attempts. This will be the toughest test of the season, but the recipe for success for the offense may be a game plan similar to what they used against Philly in their opener when they threw 44 passes putting up 27 points. Sure one of the scores was in garbage time, but they all count versus the total, and that's what I'm playing on this game.
