Most notably, the press cannot get enough of quarterback Sam Darnold who many regard as a favorite for the Heisman Trophy in 2017. Darnold’s heroics were the catalyst of USC’s comeback in the Rose Bowl and their searing finish to the 2016-17 season where they would win nine games in a row, including a defeat of the Pac-12 Champion Washington in its own stadium. In fact, Washington’s only loss prior to coming up short against #1 seed Alabama in the College Football Playoff was the aforementioned loss to USC where they were dominated in Seattle by Southern Cal. With Western Michigan coach PJ Fleck moving onto Minnesota, star wide-out Corey Davis going to the NFL, and former quarterback Zach Terrell graduating from WMU, the Broncos are projected by many to take a step back this year. The opening game for the Broncos against the Men of Troy in Los Angeles from public perspective seems to be a mere formality rather than a competition.

Since this market has opened, there has been heavy action on the Trojans. Broncos’ backers have been afforded an extra field goal as a result of the money pouring in on USC. While Western Michigan may not feature some of the talent they had in their storied 2016 campaign or the coach at the helm who led the way, Western Michigan still has plenty of weapons. Most notably, the Broncos feature a dynamic duo of running backs that have been a consistent threat for the preceding seasons. Their names: Jamauri Bogan and Jarvion Franklin. A heavy dose of the two will be instrumental in keeping Darnold off the field and creates the prospect of Western Michigan hanging around longer in this game than expected. With USC favored by many to be a College Football Playoff and potential National Championship contender, the price to take action on the Men of Troy is bound to be ludicrous.
