The Virginia Tech Hokies, out of the ACC are set to face the Big 12’s Oklahoma State Cowboys on Thursday, Dec. 28 in the year’s Camping World Bowl in Orlando at Camping World Stadium. Game time on ESPN is set for 5:15 p.m. (ET) as the second of four bowl games on that day’s slate.

The Hokies made an early run towards the top of the rankings with a straight-up 4-0 start while going 3-1 against the spread before losing to Clemson 31-17 on Sept. 30 as seven-point home underdogs. They went on to also lose to Miami and Georgia Tech as part of a SU 9-3 record on the year. Virginia Tech failed to cover in three of its last four games to post an overall record of 6-6 ATS. The total stayed UNDER in four of its last five games and it eight of its 12 games on the year.

Freshman Josh Jackson turned in a productive season at quarterback with 2,743 yards passing and 19 touchdown throws against eight interceptions. His favorite target in the passing game was Cam Phillips with 71 receptions for 964 yards and seven scores. Travon McMillian was the team’s leading rusher with 439 yards on 104 carries on an offense that was deep in that department with a total of six players rushing for at least 200 yards on the year. The Hokies averaged 28.8 points per game while holding teams to 13.5 points a game on defense.

Oklahoma State was third in the Big 12 at 6-3 in conference play. With a 58-17 season-ending romp over Kansas as prohibitive 40.5-point home favorites, the Cowboys completed a SU 9-3 run through their schedule while going 6-5-1 ATS. This included a 3-3-1 mark ATS in their seven games of the year. The total went OVER 67.5 points in that win against Kansas and it has gone OVER in their last five games. Oklahoma State closed as a favorite in 11 of the 12 games it played.

There was no other team in the nation that threw the ball for more yards than Oklahoma State as the top-ranked team in passing with an average of 392.3 yards a game. Senior quarterback Mason Rudolph ended the year with 4,553 passing yards and 35 passing touchdowns against nine interceptions. The Cowboys were also a solid running team with an average of 183.3 yards a game. Justice Hill led the way in that department with 1,347 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on 245 carries. While Oklahoma State was third in the country in scoring (46.3 PPG), its defense ranked well down the list in points allowed (30.1).
