Virginia Tech Hokies at Boston College Eagles Week 10 Picks
Betting Odds

One 4-4 team will pull above .500 and get within one more win of bowl-eligibility when Boston College battles Virginia Tech in an ACC bout Friday night in Chestnut Hill. The Hokies started 3-1 this season but are 1-3 since; the Eagles started 4-0 but are 0-4 since.

Virginia Tech is favored by a field goal on the road for this one; which way are we going with our <a class='advblue'href="https://www.sportsbettingstats.com/ncaaf/free-ncaaf-picks" title="This Week's College Football Picks ATS">free college football betting pick?

Virginia Tech-Boston College Betting Odds

This week's college football betting lines opened the Hokies at -3 over the Eagles, with an over/under of right around 47. Early betting action was holding both those numbers steady.

Virginia Tech Betting Preview

The Hokies just snapped a three-game losing skid with a 26-17 victory at Georgia Tech last week. Virginia Tech drew first blood with a 69-yard touchdown from scrimmage five minutes into the game and led 20-7 at the half. The Hokies then allowed the Yellowjackets to get within 23-17 late in the third quarter but added an insurance field goal late in the fourth and hung on for the outright win as three-point dogs.

V-Tech out-gained G-Tech 491-366, ran the ball 53 times for 237 yards, dominated time of possession by a 36:24 split, won the turnover battle 2-0 and made a key stop on a Georgia Tech fourth down inside the Hokies red zone in the fourth quarter.

Still, it was the first time in four games Virginia Tech out-gained or out-rushed an opponent.

Two weeks ago the Hokies blew a 36-27 fourth-quarter lead and lost to Syracuse 41-36. Three weeks ago they lost to Pitt 28-7. And four weeks ago they blew a 29-21 fourth-quarter lead and lost to Notre Dame 32-29.

At 2-2 in conference play Virginia Tech only trails first-place Pitt by a game (and a tie-breaker) in the ACC Coastal Division. But at 4-4 overall the Hokies still need two wins over their last four games, three of which are on the road, to become bowl-eligible.

Boston College Betting Preview

The Eagles, meanwhile, own a four-game losing skid after falling at Syracuse last week 21-6. Boston College actually led that game 3-0 at the half and 6-0 well into the third quarter, then gave up three big-play Orange touchdowns over a five-minute span and could not respond. The Eagles also pissed away the cover as six-point dogs.

BC got out-gained by Syracuse 358-251 and out-rushed 293-71. So the Eagles have been out-gained and out-rushed each of their last four games.

Two weeks ago Boston College lost to Louisville 28-14. Three weeks ago it lost to North Carolina State 33-7. And four weeks ago it lost to Clemson 19-13.

So since starting 4-0 this season the Eagles are 0-4 SU, 1-3 ATS.

At 0-4 in conference play BC is dead in the ACC Atlantic Division race and at 4-4 overall it also need two more wins over its last four games to become bowl-eligible.

VT/BC Prediction Against the Spread 11/5/21
Virginia Tech has lost three games this season by six points or less and could have won two of those. A few plays here and there and the Hokies might be 6-2. Boston College, meanwhile, has just one win over a Power 5 team and has scored a total of 40 points over its last four games. Also, the Eagles are a bit banged-up, relegated to playing their second- and third-string quarterbacks. We’re betting Virginia Tech here, minus the points.
