The Army Navy Game Betting Preview - Prediction ATS
Betting Odds

The college football regular season comes to an end with the 123rd edition of the Army-Navy game Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia. The Midshipmen dominated this rivalry for most of this century, but the Black Knights are trying to turn things around, winning four of the last eight meetings. And while neither team will play in a bowl this season, this still looks like a good match-up to watch and bet.

How are we betting this game with our Army/Navy pick?

Army-Navy Betting Odds

The college football betting lines opened this game with Army favored by a point and a half, with an over/under of right around 34. Early betting action then flipped Navy into a 2.5-point favorite and dropped that total to 32.5, which would be the lowest over/under we can remember for a college football game.

Army-Navy College Football Betting Preview

The Midshipmen lost some close games this season but pulled an upset last time out, winning at a ranked Central Florida 17-14 back on Nov. 19. Navy, playing as a two-touchdown underdog, drove the opening possession of the game 75 yards to a touchdown and led 14-6 at the half. The Midshipmen allowed the Knights to tie the score at 14-14 early in the third quarter but re-took the lead for good with a field goal a few minutes later. In the end, the Mids ran the last six minutes off the clock to preserve the victory.

Navy out-rushed UCF 248-84, held the Knights to 314 total yards, 166 below their season average, won the turnover battle 2-0, and dominated time-of-possession by a 40:20 split. The Midshipmen also converted 4/4 on 4th downs.

Navy out-rushed each of its last seven opponents.

Two games ago, the Mids trailed Notre Dame, another decent team, 35-13 at the half, rallied to within 35-32 with just over a minute to go, lost but covered at +17. Three games ago, Navy trailed at Cincinnati 20-3, got back to within 20-10, and lost but covered at +18.

In fact, of the Midshipmen's last five losses, four came by a total of 22 points. They're also 7-2 ATS their last nine times out.

At 4-7, overall Navy finished 4-4 in AAC play but will miss a bowl for the third straight season.

The Black Knights, meanwhile, who also lost some close ones this season, won their last two games to get within one win of .500. Most recently, back on Nov. 26, Army won at a bad Massachusetts 44-7.

The Knights spotted the Minutemen the first seven points of the game but scored touchdowns on four of their first five possessions to lead 28-7 at the half. Army later really pulled away by tacking on three scores in the fourth quarter and covered at -19.

The Black Knights out-rushed UMass 329-90 and won the turnover battle 4-0.

Army out-gained four of its last six opponents and out-rushed nine of its last ten foes. The Knights are also 5-0 ATS their last five times out.

Two games ago Army beat Connecticut 34-17 and covered at -10. Three games ago, the Knights led at Troy 9-0 in the third quarter, gave up the last 10 points to lose 10-9 but covered at +7. And four games ago, Army led Air Force 7-3 in the third quarter, gave up the last 10 points to lose 13-7 but covered at +7.

At 5-6 overall, the Knights will miss a bowl for just the second time over the last seven seasons.

These two teams played one common opponent this season, Air Force. Navy lost to the Falcons back in October 13-10, got out-gained by 115 yards but covered at +14; Army lost to Air Force in November 13-7, got out-gained by 179 yards but covered at +7.

Navy Midshipmen vs. Army Black Knights Pick ATS
Army owns the better offense in this match-up, but Navy owns the better defense, especially against the run. Also, while the Midshipmen lost their starting QB a while back to injury, the backups are doing a nice job. Also, Navy beat Central Florida and gave Notre Dame and Cincinnati good games; Army, against its toughest foe, got blown out by Wake Forest. We don't like going along with the betting flow, but we're going with the Midshipmen Saturday.
