However, SMU’s rushing attack which averages 203.8 yards on the ground per game will not only put the Mustangs in position to have the ball last, but potentially neutralize the presence of Memphis’ offense altogether as they can play ball control against a Tigers defense that gives up 188.8 rushing yards per game (93rd in the FBS). A steady dose of highlight-reel making running back Xavier Jones will not only keep the Tigers offense off the field, but he also has the capability to take over the game, energize the Mustangs, and demoralize the home crowd. This plays ideally into Southern Methodist’s hands.
