Navy at Temple Game Overview

Navy dropped its last two games to Memphis on the road and to Central Florida at home heading into last week’s much needed bye. It is now 5-2 straight-up with a 4-2-1 record against the spread. The total stayed UNDER the closing line in both of those losses and it has stayed UNDER in three of its last four contests. The Midshipmen are 3-2 ATS this season when closing as favorites.

Behind the nation’s top rushing offense, Navy is averaging 33.4 points a game. Duel threat Zach Abey at quarterback has thrown for just 606 yards this season while also leading the team in rushing with 1,142 yards on 208 carries. He has thrown for six touchdowns and ran for 13 more. The Midshipmen have played a bit loose on defense all season long with a points-allowed average of 28.4 points a game. They allowed a combined 61 points in those last two games.

The Owls are a shell of last season’s AAC championship team at 3-5 SU with a 1-3 record in conference play. They are coming off a nonconference 31-28 loss to Army on Oct. 21 as seven-point road underdogs. Temple is also 3-5 ATS, but it has managed to cover in three of its last four games before last week’s bye. The total went OVER 47 points in that loss to Army after staying UNDER in its previous five contests.

Last season, the Owls were known for their stout defense, but after allowing a combined 60 points in their last two games this unit has fallen to 72nd in the country in points allowed (26.9). On the other side of the ball, the offense is ranked even lower in scoring with 20.9 PPG. One of the issues has been Temple’s inability to move the ball on the ground with just 116.8 rushing yards per game. Frank Nutile got the start at quarterback the last time out and he threw for 290 yards and a touchdown in the losing cause.

Navy at Temple Free Game Prediction
Both teams needed the time off in light of their recent play, but Navy remains a much more talented team across the board in this matchup. Look for a heavy dose of the Midshipmen running the ball to control the clock and control the scoreboard on the road this Thursday night. Add in the revenge factor from last season’s lopsided loss to Temple in the AAC title game and it sets up a great opportunity to cash in on Navy ATS this time around.
