The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks (6-5) will host Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns (6-5) at Malone Stadium in Monroe, Louisiana for a rivalry game known simply as “The Battle of the Bayou”. The contest will take place on Saturday, November 24th, 2018 at 3:00 PM ET. The game will be available on ESPN+ streaming. A potential trip to the Sun Belt Conference Championship is on the line for both the participants. The Warhawks and the Ragin’ Cajuns needed overtime to declare a winner in the 2017 edition of this storied feud as ULM edged out ULL 56-50 in a classic. Previous to this, the Cajuns had won three straight against their arch enemy.

Louisiana-Lafayette at Louisiana-Monroe Overview

Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns

The stakes are far more straightforward for the Ragin' Cajuns, win and they are going to the Sun Belt Conference Championship to play either Appalachian State or Troy next Saturday. After narrowly missing a bowl game in 2017 with a 5-7 record, first-year Head Coach Bill Napier has this team now playing for a potential Dollar General or Camellia Bowl berth at the minimum should the Cajuns get the win here. Lafayette notched a second consecutive win to gain bowl eligibility in a 48-38 win against the USA Jaguars last Saturday.

Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks

Monroe comes in on a low note after winning four straight to gain bowl eligibility like their arch-rivals. Last Saturday, Monroe was taken to the woodshed in Jonesboro, Arkansas at the hands of the Arkansas State Red Wolves when they lost 31-17. The Warhawks failed to cover as a 7.5-point underdog. For ULM to head to the Sun Belt big dance, they will need to get a win here and have Arkansas State get upset at Texas State.

Reasons to Avoid Louisiana-Monroe

While the Warhawks and Cajuns are playing this one out, the aforementioned Arkansas State and Texas State match-up will also be commencing. This contest can easily distract the Warhawks from focusing on the task at hand. For Louisiana-Lafayette, their path is more defined, and they are eager to make their bitter rivals a brick in that road.

Reasons to Back Louisiana-Lafayette

After last year's escapade, the Ragin Cajuns are hungry to avenge what was a brutal loss. ULL trailed by as much as 21 against the Warhawks and rallied back to draw level at the end of regulation. Then, the Cajuns would run out of gas and lose in extra time. In addition to the high stakes and the rivalry aspect of this game, many returning players have had this date circled on their calendar all year as they want to the right the ship. Once again, the emotional intangibles rest with Lafayette when you consider the possible distractions that accompany Monroe.

UL LAF at UL Mon Prediction 11/24/2018
The Ragin' Cajuns will cap off their outstanding 2018 campaign with an exclamation point and vanquish their most hated nemesis. This game will see plenty of scoring, but Louisiana-Lafayette will come out on top and perhaps do so by several scores. There is tremendous equity in spotting the field goal plus half of a point.
