Coming off non-conference wins to open this season last week, No. 12 Florida and No. 20 Kentucky open their SEC slates with an East Division bout Saturday night at the Swamp. The Wildcats are now in their 10th season under Coach Stoops, while the Gators are now playing for their fourth full-time head coach over that same span.

Florida is favored by less than a touchdown at home for this contest. Which way are we going here with our free UK/FLA pick?

Kentucky-Florida Betting Odds

This week's college football betting lines opened the Gators as 4.5-point favorites over the Wildcats, with an over/under of right around 51.5. Early betting action bumped Florida a point to -5.5.

Kentucky-Florida College Football Betting Preview

The Wildcats opened their 2022 season with a 37-13 win over Miami-Ohio last Saturday. Kentucky spotted the RedHawks the first seven points of the game and needed a field goal at the first-half buzzer to lead 13-10 into the locker room. But the Wildcats' Barion Brown returned the second-half kick-off 100 yards to a touchdown, and Kentucky pulled away from there for the victory and the cover as a 16-point favorite.

Also, that game played under a total of 54.

The Wildcats out-gained Miami 353-290, even though they managed just 50 yards on the ground on 26 rushing attempts. Kentucky also lost time of possession by a 32:28 split.

The Wildcats only returned 11 starters this season from a team that played 10-3 last season. Six returned on an offense that averaged 425 yards per game last season, while only five returned on a defense that held opponents to 340 YPG. On top of that, RB Chris Rodriguez (almost 1,400 yards last year) missed the season opener (suspensions) and is very iffy for Saturday night.

Kentucky's averaged more than 200 yards per game rushing over the last four seasons, but that part of its game is a real question mark right now.

The Gators, meanwhile, opened their 2022 campaign and the Coach Napier era with a come-from-behind 29-26 victory over No. 7 Utah last Saturday. Florida, a 2.5-point home dog, spotted the Utes the first seven points of the game but got a big play for a score late in the second quarter to lead 14-13 into the half. The Gators then fell down 19-14 late in the third, took a 22-19 lead early in the fourth, fell back down 26-22 with six minutes left but immediately drove 75 yards to the go-ahead touchdown with just over a minute to go. Florida then secured the W with an interception in its own end zone in the final seconds.

Also, that game played over a total of 51 when the teams combined for three touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

The Gators, with transfer QB Anthony Richardson working some magic, racked up 451 yards of offense last Saturday, 283 on the ground. But they also gave up 446 yards of Utah offense, 230 on the ground. So there's room for improvement on that side of the ball this week.

Florida returned 13 starters this season from a team that played 6-7 last year. Six starters returned on an offense that averaged 463 YPG last year, including four along the offensive line. And seven starters came back from a defense that allowed 368 YPG.

Kentucky-Florida History

The Gators beat the Wildcats 31 times in a row from 1987-2017, but Kentucky is 2-2 SU over the last four meetings and 4-0-1 ATS over the last five. Last season the Wildcats got out-played by the Gators in Lexington but used the return of a blocked field goal for a touchdown to win 20-13.

College Football Betting Trends

Over three match-ups last week in college football between ranked teams, the higher-ranked outfits played 3-0 SU and 2-1 ATS.

Totals Report

The Under cashed in three of the last four meetings between these teams.

Kentucky at Florida Prediction ATS

Kentucky's without its No. 1 running back, while Florida returns four starting offensive linemen. So the Gators own the better running game. Despite that unit's performance last week, Florida probably also owns the better defense. And they're giving less than a touchdown at the Swamp. We like the Gators minus the points for Saturday night.
