<p>
The Illini opened their 2022 season with a 38-6 home victory over Wyoming last Saturday. Illinois took the lead for good with a touchdown 40 seconds into the game and led 17-3 at the half. The Illini then allowed the Cowboys to get within 17-6 early in the third quarter but tacked on the last 21 points of the game to secure the win and the cover as 14-point favorites. Also, that game sneaked over a total of 43. Illinois out-gained Wyoming 477-212, ran the ball for 260 yards, and won first downs 26-10, the turnover battle 2-0, and time of possession by a 37:23 split. The Illini returned 13 starters this season from a team that played 5-7 last season. Seven starters returned on an offense that averaged 330 yards per game last season, including 1,000-yard rusher Chase Brown and last year's top two receivers. But they must replace three along the offensive line. And six starters returned on a defense that held opponents to 366 YPG, including five of last year's top seven tacklers. Illinois, with five Big Ten road games this season but no Ohio State or Penn State, is playing against a season wins over/under of 4.5. The Hoosiers, meanwhile, are coming off a disastrous 2-10 campaign of a season ago. Indiana began last season with high hopes after going 14-7 the previous two seasons. But following a 2-2 start, the Hoosiers lost their top two quarterbacks and their last eight games, most in a non-competitive fashion. This season Indiana returns 12 starters, tied for third-fewest in the Big Ten. Only five starters are back on an offense that averaged just 290 YPG last season, although three of those are along the offensive line. But seven starters are back on a defense that allowed 386 YPG, including two up front and five of the back seven. The Hoosiers, with only four Big Ten road games and a non-conference bout at Cincinnati, are playing against a wins O/U of four.

Illinois Fighting Illini at Indiana Hoosiers Prediction ATS
Illinois owns the better running game and probably the better defense, and it's already got a game under its belt this season. And the Illini at least know who they want to be; Wisconsin South. Meanwhile, we see Indiana as a huge question mark heading into this season. Coach Allen had this program moving in a good direction until October of last season. Now, we don't know what to expect. So we're taking the points with Illinois Friday night.
