CFB Betting Odds
This week's college football betting market opened with Florida Atlantic as a 5.5-point road favorite for Friday night, with an over/under of right around 42. Early betting action then dipped that line to 4.5.
FAU-Charlotte Betting Preview
The Owls are coming off a disappointing 36-10 loss at home to UTSA last Saturday. Florida Atlantic, looking for a third straight victory, used a pick-6 to lead 10-7 after one quarter. But FAU came up completely empty from there, getting outscored 29-0, and whiffed ATS at +2.5.
Florida Atlantic got out-gained by the Road Runners 437-162, out-rushed 176-20, and didn’t score an offensive touchdown.
The Owls were playing some decent ball heading into last week; four games ago they gave Illinois a scare, lost 23-17 but covered at +16; then they ran the ball for 241 yards and beat Tulsa 20-17; then they racked up 587 yards of offense and slapped South Florida 56-14.
At 2-1 in AAC play, Florida Atlantic remains in the running for a spot in the conference championship game.
On the injury front, the Owls recently lost their starting QB for the season, but back-up Daniel Richardson ain’t exactly a virgin, with 23 career starts at Central Michigan.
Meanwhile, the 49ers just snapped a five-game losing skid with a 10-7 upset victory at East Carolina last Saturday. Charlotte, playing as a six-point dog, took the lead for good on a first-quarter field goal, went up 10-0 early in the third, and held on from there, surviving a late Pirates missed field goal that would have tied the game.
Charlotte out-gained East Carolina 328-127, out-rushed the Pirates 184-39, and dominated time of possession 41:19.
Four games ago the 49ers lost to Florida 22-7, although they covered easily at +28. Then Charlotte lost to SMU 34-16; then they fell to Navy 14-0. So the 49ers have scored four offensive touchdowns over their last four games.
FAU-Charlotte Recent History
The Owls own a four-game winning streak on the 49ers, winning by an average score of 37-17, going 3-1 ATS. Last year Florida Atlantic ran the ball for 218 yards, won 43-13, and covered at -6.5.
Totals Report
The unders are 4-3 in Owls games this season, which are averaging 49 total points.
The unders are 5-2 in 49ers games, which are averaging 37 points.
The unders are 7-1 over the last eight meetings between these teams.
Owls vs. 49ers Prediction ATS
Florida Atlantic was playing some good ball, then laid an egg last week. We consider the Owls good candidates to bounce back this week. Meanwhile, Charlotte was playing losing ball, then pulled a short upset on the road last week. We consider the 49ers good candidates for a letdown here. Also, FAU beat the 49ers soundly last season, and not a ton has changed since then. We’re betting on the Owls on Friday night.
