The Tigers are 3-0 on the season after beating Louisiana Tech last week 48-20. Clemson, favored by 33 points, scored the first 10 points of the game but only led 13-6 at the half. The Tigers then scored touchdowns on their first three possessions of the second half to go up 34-6 but took their foot off the gas, allowed the Bulldogs to put up a couple of scores, ultimately won the game handily but came up short against that huge spread. Clemson out-gained Louisiana Tech 521-317, and a good chunk of the yardage the Tigers defense gave up came in prevent mode. The Tigers also ran the ball for 280 yards and won the turnover battle 4-1. Clemson opened this season three weeks ago with a 41-10 victory over Georgia Tech, although the Tigers only led that game 14-10 early in the third quarter before pulling away. Clemson then beat FCS Furman 35-12 but came nowhere close to covering as a 45-point favorite. So the Tigers could easily be 0-3 ATS on the season. The Demon Deacons, meanwhile, are also 3-0 SU this season after outlasting Liberty last week 37-36. Wake Forest, favored by 17 points, scored the first 10 points of the game and led 20-8 at the half. The Deacons then fell behind the Flames 23-20 in the third quarter, later took the lead for good at 37-30, then survived a Liberty two-point attempt with a minute to go to win. But Wake came up way short against that spread. The Deacons actually got out-gained by the Flames 428-346, out-rushed 172-21, and lost time of possession by a 35:25 split. But Wake Forest won the turnover battle 4-2, creating a +4 points differential, and benefited from a couple of key Liberty defensive penalties during a fourth-quarter scoring drive. A couple of plays here and there, and the Deacons could have easily lost that game. Wake Forest opened this season with a 44-10 victory over VMI but needed to score the last 14 points of the game to cover at -33. The Deacons then won at Vanderbilt 45-25, covering at -13.
