Providence also had an easy time in their season opener beating Houston Baptist 84-55 in a game that did not have a line. Maliek White came off the bench and was the high scorer for the Friars with 13 points on 5/7 shooting. David Caraher was the high scorer for Houston Baptist scoring 19 points on 7/13 shooting and he was the only player for them that scored in double figures. Providence played well on both sides of the floor shooting 50% from the field and holding Houston Baptist to 31.7% shooting. The Friars jumped out early and led at halftime 42-23. Last season the Friars were 3-6 facing ranked teams.
