The annual NBA All-Star break is the perfect time of the season to take a closer look at any NBA futures on the board at 5Dimes online sportsbook. With all 30 teams playing at least two-thirds of its 82-game regular season schedule, it becomes rather easy to separate the true contenders for the 2019 NBA title from all the other teams close to merely running out the string over the next two months.
The race in the Western Conference as far as winning that futures bet is basically the Golden State Warriors against the field. They have gone to the last four best-of-seven NBA Finals while taking home the world title three separate times.
2019 NBA Western Conference Futures - Top Favorite
Golden State Warriors -390
The Warriors were a dominant team before Kevin Durant joined the roster ahead of the 2017/2018 season. Golden State was in the driver seat in the West before DeMarcus Cousins was cleared from injury to return to the court. The team is currently enjoying a well-deserved rest ahead of this season’s push for the playoffs. That starts on Thursday in a home game against the Pacific Division rival Sacramento Kings.
Golden State picked up the pace with Cousins in the lineup. Going back to a 127-123 victory against the Kings on Jan. 5 as a 7.5-point road favorite, it has posted a straight-up record of 16-2. The Warriors’ lead in the conference standings is just two games on a record of 41-16. However, the difference in their betting odds to win the West against the next-best team is staggering.
The betting odds that Golden State secures a fifth-straight appearance in the NBA Finals out of the West are set at -390. Its odds to win the 2019 NBA Championship are set at -220. The best odds on the board when it comes to an actual matchup in the championship series favor the Warriors against the Milwaukee Bucks at +298. The betting odds for the first matchup that does not include Golden State are set at +2850 for a Milwaukee vs. Houston tilt in the NBA Finals.
Given that all of the Warriors’ top players are healthy heading into the final 25 games of the regular season is another reason why this team is such a prohibitive favorite to win the West.
Betting the 2019 NBA Western Conference Futures - Top Contenders
Denver Nuggets +1750
The Denver Nuggets are the closest team to Golden State in the standings at 39-18 through their first 57 games, but bettors are not buying in with heavy +1750 odds to win the conference as fourth-favorites. Denver missed the playoffs last season and the last time it made it all the way to the championship series in the conference was back in 2009.
Oklahoma City +830
The Oklahoma City Thunder made a move in the standings over the past month at 11-2 SU in their last 13 games. They are currently four games off the pace at 37-20. They could close that gap behind Paul George and Russell Westbrook, but getting past Golden State as +830 third-favorites to win the West is still a very tall task.
