Fellow southpaw Kikuchi, by our strict standards, hit 11/29 on quality starts pitching for Seattle last year. On the whole he posted a 4.41 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP through 157 innings last season, with 163 K’s against 62 bases on balls. The Mariners played 14-15 with Kikuchi last year, although he probably deserved a little better. Over two starts last year against the Yankees Kikuchi gave up five runs and 12 hits through 10 innings, with 11 whiffs against six walks. Seattle split those two games.
