<h2>
MLB Betting Odds<br />
</h2>
<p>
Wednesday's MLB betting odds opened Pittsburgh and Taillon at around -105 over the Cardinals and Mikolas, with an over/under of 7.5 runs. Early betting action then bumped that line up to -115.
</p>
<p>
The Pirates could also be found getting upwards of +190 giving the run and a half on the MLB run line.
</p>
<h2>
Cardinals vs. Pirates Set-Up<br />
</h2>
<p>
St. Louis stole the first game of this series Monday night 6-5 in 11 innings, cashing in as a +105 underdog on the MLB betting line. The Cardinals spotted Pittsburgh three runs in the first inning and another in the third but scored three of their own in the seventh and single runs in the eighth, ninth and 11th for the victory.
</p>
<p>
St. Louis starter Adam Wainwright gave up four runs in four innings, but the Cardinals bullpen allowed just one run and two hits over the last seven.
</p>
<p>
Meanwhile, Pittsburgh starter Chris Archer tossed five scoreless innings, only to see the Pirates bullpen give up six runs over the last five innings.
</p>
<p>
Last year St. Louis took the season series from the Pirates 11 games to eight.
</p>
<h2>
Wednesday's Starting Arms<br />
</h2>
<p>
Taillon (0-1, 6.00) opened this season with a good effort, albeit in losing fashion last Thursday in Cincinnati. He allowed just one run through the first six innings, then gave up three in the seventh in a game Pittsburgh eventually lost 5-3.
</p>
<p>
Last year, according to our stringent standards, Taillon finished 15/32 on quality starts. The Pirates went a solid 20-12 with Taillon, with the unders going 18-13.
</p>
<p>
In three starts last year against St. Louis Taillon allowed just five runs and 12 hits through 21 1/3 innings. Pittsburgh went 2-1 in those games, with the unders going 2-1.
</p>
<p>
Mikolas (0-1, 9.00) opened this season by giving up five runs and five hits, including three homers, through five innings of a 5-4 loss at Milwaukee last Thursday.
</p>
<p>
Last year Mikolas finished 19/32 on quality starts. The Cardinals went a sharp 24-8 with Mikolas, with the overs going 18-14.
</p>
<p>
In five starts last year against Pittsburgh Mikolas allowed 10 earned runs and 30 hits through 31 innings, with 26 strikeouts against just four walks. Thanks to some poor run support (two shutouts) St. Louis only went 2-3 in those games, with the overs going 3-2.
</p>
<h2>
Wednesday's Batting Splits<br />
</h2>
<p>
The Cardinals are hitting .247/.329/.487 this season against right-handed pitching. But this lineup has also struck out at least 10 times in each game so far this season, and those are just dead outs.
</p>
<p>
The Pirates are batting just .219/.356/.323 this season against RH pitching.
</p>
<h2>
The Bullpens<br />
</h2>
<p>
The St. Louis bullpen has allowed six ER on 11 hits and 11 walks through 20 1/3 innings of work this season.
</p>
<p>
The Pittsburgh pen has allowed five ER on eight hits and seven walks through just 11 innings this season.
</p>
<h2>
Totals Report<br />
</h2>
<ul>
<li>
The overs are 3-1-1 in Cardinals games this season.
</li>
<li>
The unders are 2-1 in Pirates games this season.
</li>
<li>
The unders finished 10-7-2 in Cards-Pirates games last season.
</li>
<li>
The unders finished 42-33-6 in games played at PNC Park last season, which averaged 8.1 runs per.

Wednesday's pitching match-up looks pretty even, but we give St. Louis short edges with the sticks and in the bullpen. So we're taking the underdog price with the Cardinals for our free MLB pick here.
