St. Louis Cardinals vs. Cincinnati Reds Prediction
The Cardinals are coming off being swept in a three-game series facing the defending champion Chicago Cubs. They are in 3rd place in the NL Central 2.5 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Reds have lost two in a row and five of their last six games. While they are in the basement of the NL Central they are still only four games out of first place. The Cincinnati pitching ranks 2nd to last in the Majors in team ERA and in their five losses in their last six games, which began with an embarrassing 17-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, they have given up a total of 47 runs. Martinez has been pitching very well as of late, but he has gotten very little run support. In his last three starts, where the Cardinals lost twice, he has gone 24 innings and only given up four earned runs while the lineup only scored three runs. In that span he had a game going nine innings and not giving up any runs and only allowing two hits and St. Louis still lost. He will have another good outing tonight and unlike the last few starts his lineup will help him out getting to Wojciechowski. The Cardinals will take the first game of this series, snap their three-game losing streak, and send the Reds to their 3rd straight loss.
