<p>San Diego just got swept three games in St. Louis, losing Wednesday’s series finale 5-2. Just before that the Padres took two of three games at home from Pittsburgh, but just before that they lost the last two games of a series against this Milwaukee outfit. So San Diego is only 2-5 over its last seven games.</p>
<p>At 30-20 overall the Padres sit in second place in the NL West, three games behind the division-leading Dodgers.</p>
<p>Milwaukee, meanwhile, just split four games at the Cubs, losing Wednesday’s series finale 4-3 in 10 innings. Just before that the Brewers split four games with the Cardinals, and just before that they took the last two games of a series at San Diego. So Milwaukee is 6-4 over its last 10 games.</p>
<p>At 32-20 overall the Brewers lead the NL Central by two games over second-place St. Louis.</p>
<p>This series is the second meeting between these teams this season. As mentioned above Milwaukee took two of three low-scoring games from the Padres at Petco Park a week ago.</p>
<h2>Thursday's Pitching Match-Up </h2>

Last Saturday he got clipped by the Cardinals for eight runs - five earned - and nine hits, including two home runs, through four innings of an 8-3 Milwaukee defeat. But over his two starts previous to that he allowed just two runs - one earned - and seven hits through 12 innings.</p>
<p>The Brewers are 3-6 with Houser this season but that’s at least a couple games worse than it should be.</p>
<p>Over his last three outings against San Diego, two last year and a quality start 10 days ago, Houser allowed three runs and nine hits through 15 2/3 innings.</p>

<p>San Diego is 4-5 with Manaea this year but that’s at least a game or two worse than it should be.</p>
<p>This will be Manaea’s first action against Milwaukee since 2017, when he was with Oakland, and that’s a long time ago.</p>

<p>San Diego is batting .227 against right-handed pitching this season, with a .303 team OBP and a .336 team slugging percentage. The Padres have also scored a total of just 22 runs over their last nine games.</p>
<p>Milwaukee is slashing .209/.292/.356 against left-handed pitching. This line-up is also down two-three regulars, with McCutchen, Adames and Renfroe all either out or questionable for Thursday night.</p>
