Pitching Match Up

Minnesota: Phil Hughes (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
Chicago: Derek Holland (0-0, 0.00 ERA)

Phil Hughes goes for the Twins tonight and last season he was 1-7 with an ERA of 5.95 and a WHIP of 1.51. Hughes had the worst season of his career last season and his season was cut short with his last start on July 9th to undergo shoulder surgery. Minnesota has lost seven of his last eight road starts and five of his last six starts facing teams from the AL Central. Hughes faced the White Sox early last season in a 3-0 Twins loss where he went seven innings and gave up three earned runs on three hits.

Derek Holland gets the nod for the White Sox and last season he was 7-9 with an ERA of 4.95 and a WHIP of 1.41. Last season he was with the Texas Rangers and this will be his first start for Chicago. Holland did not face Minnesota last season, but in his career against them in eight starts he is 2-3 with an ERA of 4.40. In the last three seasons Holland only has won a total of 13 games.

Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox Prediction
Tough call in this one not only because of the pitching match up, but also because the Twins are hot winning their first three games and the White Sox scored 11 runs in their last game. While the Twins are coming off a three-game sweep it was at home and last season they were tied with the San Diego Padres for the fewest wins in the Majors. On top of that they have lost five of their last six games facing the White Sox when Hughes has gotten the start. It is an advantage that Holland did not face the Twins last season and he will have a good start against them and the Sox lineup will give him some support. Chicago will win this game and hand the Twins their first loss of the season.
