The Twins had lost his previous four starts, and he had his worst one of the season in the outing before his last one getting lit up for eight earned runs and not lasting past the 2nd inning in an 11-8 loss to the Kansas City Royals. Romero faced the Angels on May 13th and had a good outing giving up one earned run in five innings, but did not get much help in a 2-1 Minnesota loss.
