The Houston Astros started slowly this season but now own a 10-game winning streak, heading into the finale of a quick two-game series with the rival A's in Oakland Wednesday night.

MLB Betting Odds

Wednesday's MLB betting odds opened Houston and Miley at around -110 over Oakland and Montas, with an over/under of 9 runs. The early betting action then bumped that line about a nickel, to around -115.

The Astros could also be found getting upwards of +140 giving the run and a half on the MLB run line.

Astros vs. A's Set-Up

Houston grabbed the opener of this series Tuesday night 9-1, winning easily as a -155 favorite on the MLB money line and covering easily at a price of +100 against the MLB run line. The Astros scored once in the top of the first inning, twice in the second and five times in the fourth on their way toward victory.

So Houston now owns a 10-game winning streak, while Oakland has lost two straight.

At 12-5 overall Houston now leads the AL West by a half-game over second-place Seattle, with the 10-10 A's 3.5 games out.

This series is the second encounter between these teams this season; the Astros swept three games from Oakland two weeks ago in Houston.

Last year Houston took the season series from the A's 12 games to seven.

Wednesday's Starting Arms

Righty Montas, by our stringent standards, is 1/3 on quality starts this season, but he's actually pitched pretty well. Last time out, last Wednesday, he allowed three runs and three hits, although two of those left the yard, through six innings of a 10-3 Oakland victory. And just before that he held these Astros to two runs through five innings, although the A's lost that game 3-2. On the season Montas has allowed six runs and 13 hits through 17 innings.

Oakland is 2-1 with Montas this season, with the unders going 2-1.

Over three career starts against Houston, two last year and the one 12 days ago, Montas has allowed seven earned runs and 21 hits through 16 1/3 innings. The A's went 1-2 in those games, with the unders going 2-1.

Lefty Miley is 1/3 on quality starts this season, but one out away from being 2/3. Last Friday he gave up three runs and six hits through four innings of a 10-6 Astros victory over Seattle, but just before that he held these A's scoreless on four hits through 5 2/3 innings of a 6-0 Houston win. On the season Miley has allowed six runs and 18 hits through 15 2/3 innings.

The Astros are 2-1 with Miley this season, with the unders going 2-1.

That start 11 days ago was Miley's first against Oakland since 2017, when he was with Baltimore.

Wednesday's Batting Splits

Houston is batting .265/.343/.450 against right-handed pitching this season. This lineup has also scored at least six runs in six of its last nine games.

Oakland is batting .274/.345/.504 against left-handed pitching this season. This lineup had also scored at least seven runs five games in a row, until Tuesday night.

The Bullpens

The Astros bullpen owns a 2.72 ERA this season, with a 0.97 WHIP and a 61/13 strikeouts/walks ratio.

The A's bullpen owns a 4.30 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP and a 74/34 K/BB ratio.

Astros at A's Prediction 4/17/19

Crash Davis once said “never fuck with a winning streak,” and Houston is riding a helluva streak. So we're going with Crash's advice in this spot. And knowing that the Astros will bat nine times we have no qualms about giving the run and a half against the MLB run line.
