Detroit Tigers at Cleveland Indians Pick 06/23/2019
Betting Odds

The Betting Lines

The money line for this game opened with the host Indians as a -190 or so favorite but most boards now are hanging around -200. The total line opened at 9 runs and has received betting action on the UNDER with the sportsbooks moving the money to -115 to -120 on that side of the line.

The Starting Pitching

Daniel Norris: The Tigers starter Norris has given his team a decent chance to win in recent outings allowing three or fewer runs in five of his last six. He has had success pitching in Cleveland with his team winning three of his four starts. Historically today's projected lineup has hit .240 against him in 50 at-bats.

Zach Plesac: The Indians rookie has pitched well in all, but one of his five career starts allowing two or fewer runs in four of the starts. His WHIP is an impressive 0.98 but the long ball, but he has been giving up the long ball giving up six. Plesac has not faced a hitter from the Detroit lineup.

The Offense

Detroit sits dead last in scoring putting up just 257 runs on the board. Their batting average .230, on-base percentage .291 and slugging percentage are all in the bottom three in baseball.

Cleveland isn’t all that much better in percentages with the 25th ranked BA (.236), 21st OBP (.316) and the 23rd SLG (.403), but they do score nearly one run more per game than the Tigers and have one of the tops pitching staffs in the AL.

Current form also favors the Tribe with 31 runs scored over their last five games and scoring four or more runs in six of their previous nine. The Tigers bats did look like they were coming around, but they put up a goose egg last night on six hits.

Behind the Plate

We have Adrian Johnson behind home plate this afternoon, and he's shown a significant bias to the home team this season with the host winning 12 of 15 games. The overall Over/Under numbers have been close to even with the UNDER holding an 8-7 edge.

Weather Forecast

The temperature at Progressive Field is forecasted to be in the high 70’s at game time with a light wind blowing out to left.

Tigers vs. Indians Prediction 6/23/19
I do think that the Indians should get the money in this game, but I’m not willing to risk basically 2-1 to see. The rookie starter Zach Pleasac has been really good at times this season, and while he has given up the long ball, the Tigers rank 29th in home runs this season and are unlikely to capitalize. Detroit's starter Norris as mentioned has had success in Cleveland, and while he hasn't been overpowering, he has been adequate. I think we're looking at a 4-2 type game today making the UNDER the play.
