Pitching Match Up

Cleveland: Trevor Bauer (12-8, 4.26 ERA)

Kansas City: Edinson Volquez (10-11, 5.37 ERA)

Trevor Bauer goes for the Indians tonight and in his last outing he gave up four earned runs in seven innings in a 10-4 win over the Chicago White Sox. He had given up six earned runs in each of his previous two starts, which were both Cleveland losses. In September Bauer was 3-2, but had an ERA of 6.75. The Indians are 1-4 in Bauer’s last 5 road starts. Tonight will be his first start of the season against the Royals and in his career facing them he is 1-2 with a 3.41 ERA in six starts.

Edinson Volquez gets the nod for the Royals and in his last outing he gave up four earned runs in only two innings of work in a 12-9 win over the Detroit Tigers. Kansas City had lost his previous two starts and in one of those outings he faced the Indians only giving up one earned run in six innings, but got little help in a 2-1 Kansas City loss. The Royals are 1-5 in Volquez’s last six home starts. The Royals are 2-5 in their last seven games against the Indians and they are also 2-5 in their last seven games facing them at home.

Cleveland Indians at Kansas City Royals Prediction
The Indians are already in the playoffs, but they still have a lot to play for. They will face the Boston Red Sox in the ALDS, but the venue has not been set, as Cleveland trails Boston by ½ game in the standings. They have had the Royals’ number in the last several games facing them and tonight face Volquez, who was 0-1 with a less than stellar ERA of 7.77 in five September starts. The Indians’ offense has been struggling a little as of late in losing four of their last six games, but they scored seven last night against the Royals and may surpass that run total tonight facing a struggling Volquez. Cleveland will win this game and keep pressure on the Red Sox in the chase for home field advantage in the ALDS.
