<h2>
Reds vs. Nationals Set-Up<br />
</h2>
<p>
Cincinnati just split four games at home with the Cubs over the weekend, losing Sunday's series finale 6-3. Just before that the Reds swept two games from the Angels, and just before that they split four games at Atlanta. Going back a bit further Cincinnati is 4-0-2 over its last six series and 10-5 over its previous 15 games.
</p>
<p>
At 56-60 overall the Reds trail the first-place Cubs by seven games in the NL Central, but they're only five games, although also several teams, behind St. Louis in the battle for the second National Leauge wild-card spot.
</p>
<p>
Washington, meanwhile, just dropped two of three games at the Mets over the weekend, avoiding the sweep with a 7-4 victory Sunday. Just before that the Nationals swept three games out in San Francisco, although just before that they lost two of three at Arizona. Going back a bit further Washington is only 1-4 over its last five series but 4-2 over its previous six games.
</p>
<p>
At 62-55 overall the Nats trail first-place Atlanta by 6.5 games in the NL East, but they lead the NL wild-card race by a half-game over second-place St. Louis.
</p>
<p>
This series is the second meeting between these teams this season; back in June, the Nats took two of three games from the Reds in Cincy.

<h2>
Monday's Starting Arms<br />
</h2>
<p>
<a href="https://www.sportsbettingstats.com/mlb/pitcherlog/136259&quot; title="Erick Fedde Pitching Logs">Fedde</a>, by our stringent standards, is just 2/10 on quality starts this season but two for his last four. Last Monday he tossed six innings of six-hit, shutout ball in a 4-0 Washington win over San Francisco, which was a welcome rebound effort after getting shelled for nine runs in less than four innings in his previous outing against Atlanta.
</p>
<p>
The Nationals are 5-5 when Fedde starts this season, 3-2 over his last five outings.
</p>
<p>
In his only career start against the Reds, in that series back in June, Fedde allowed two runs on six hits and three walks through four innings of a 5-2 Washington win.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://www.sportsbettingstats.com/mlb/pitcherlog/57283&quot; title="Anthony DeSclafani">DeSclafani</a> is only 5/22 on quality starts this year and 0 for his last three, although a good part of that is due to a short leash. Last Tuesday he gave up four runs and five hits, including a pair of homers, through 5 1/3 innings of an 8-4 Cincinnati victory over the Angels. And just before that, he gave up three runs and seven hits through five frames against the Braves.
</p>
<p>
The Reds are 11-11 with DeSclafani this year, and while they're only 2-4 over his last six outings, that's not all his fault.
</p>
<p>
In his most recent start against the Nationals, back in August of last season, DeSclafani allowed just one run and six hits through seven innings of a 7-1 Cincy win.
</p>
<h2>
Monday's Batting Splits<br />
</h2>
<p>
Cincinnati is batting .246/.314/.434 against right-handed pitching this season. The Reds have also scored at least five runs six times in their last seven games.
</p>
<p>
Washington is batting .250/.327/.426 against RH pitching this season. However, this lineup could be without a key stick in Juan Soto (24 HR, 77 RBI), who left Sunday's game with an ankle injury.
</p>
<h2>
The Bullpens<br />
</h2>
<p>
The Reds bullpen owns a 4.44 ERA this season and a 1.34 WHIP while allowing a .747 OPS.
</p>
<p>
The Nationals pen owns a 6.00 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP while allowing an .803 OPS. Numbers like those are why we rank this unit among the bottom three or four bullpens in Baseball.
</p>

Reds at Nationals Prediction 08/12/2019

We're calling this pitching match-up a push, along with the splits with the sticks. But we give Cincinnati an advantage in the bullpen comparison, and the Reds are just playing the better ball as of late. We like Cincy in this spot.
