White Sox vs. Cubs Set-Up<br />

The ChiSox just split four games at home with the Yankees over the weekend, winning the first two, then losing Saturday and Sunday. They then had Monday off.

Just before that the White Sox split two games at home with Washington, and just before that they took two of three at Kansas City. So the ChiSox are 5-3 over their last eight games.

<p>
At 34-36 overall the White Sox trail division-leading Minnesota by 12.5 games in the AL Central, but they're only four games back of Texas and Boston in the battle for the second American League wild-card spot.

Meanwhile, the Cubs just dropped three of four games to the Dodgers in LA over the weekend, losing Sunday 3-2. They then also had Monday off.

Just before that the Cubbies lost two of three at Colorado. So the Cubs are 2-5 over their last seven games.

At 39-32 overall the Cubbies trail division-leading Milwaukee by a half-game in the NL Central, but they're also tied with Philadelphia for the lead in the NL wild-card race.

This series is the first meeting between these teams this season. Last year the Cubs took four of six games from the White Sox.

Tuesday's Starting Arms<br />

Lefty Hamels, by our strict standards, is 7/14 on quality starts this season and working on a run of three in a row. Last Wednesday he tossed seven innings of six-hit, shutout ball, with nine strikeouts, in a 10-1 Cubs win at Colorado. And over his last three starts, he's allowed just one unearned run and 11 hits through 22 innings, with 23 strikeouts.

The Cubs are 10-4 with Hamels this season.

In his one start last year against the White Sox while with Texas Hamels gave up seven runs and nine hits through five innings of a 10-5 Rangers loss.

Nova is 6/14 on quality starts this season, but 0 for his last two. Last Thursday he gave up four runs and six hits through 5 2/3 innings against the Yankees, but the White Sox won that game anyway 5-4. And just before that he gave up four runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Royals.

The White Sox are 6-8 with Nova this year.
