MLB Betting Odds

Monday's baseball betting lines opened this game at right around a pick 'em, with an over/under of eight runs. Early betting action then slid Chicago into a -118 favorite and dipped that total to 7.5.

White Sox-Mariners MLB Betting Preview

Chicago just took two of three games at home from Minnesota over the weekend, missing out on the sweep by losing Sunday's series finale 5-1. Just before that, the White Sox took the last two games of a three-game series with Kansas City. So Chicago is 2-0 over its last two series and 4-1 over its last five games.

At 67-67 overall, the White Sox sit in third place in the AL Central, just two games behind Cleveland and the Twins, who are tied for first.

Meanwhile, Seattle swept three games at the Guardians, winning Sunday's series finale 6-3 in 11 innings. Just before that, the Mariners swept three games at Detroit, and just before that, they took three of four from Cleveland. So Seattle is 3-0 over its last three series and 9-1 over its last ten games.

At 76-58 overall, the Mariners lead the American League wild-card race by one game over second-place Tampa Bay, by two games over third-place Toronto, and by 4.5 games over fourth-place Baltimore.

This series is the second meeting between these teams this season. Back in April, the White Sox took two of three games from the Mariners on the South Side.

Monday's Pitching Match-Up

Gonzales is 12/26 on quality starts this season, going nicely as of late. Last Tuesday against the Tigers, he allowed three runs and seven hits through six innings of a 5-3 Seattle victory. And over his last three starts, he's held opponents to six runs - five earned - and 17 hits through 17 1/3 innings.

The Mariners are 12-14 with Gonzales this season, but that's at least a couple of games worse than they should be, based on his performances.

This will be Gonzales' first start against the White Sox since 2018, and that's kind of already a long time ago.

Lynn is 6/15 on quality starts this year and three for his last four. Last Wednesday, he held Kansas City to one run and four hits through seven innings, with zero walks and eight strikeouts, in a 4-2 Chicago win. And over his last four starts, he's allowed just five ER and 17 hits through 24 2/3 innings, with two walks against 29 whiffs.

The White Sox are 8-7 with Lynn this season, and that's about what they should be.

In his last start against Seattle, in June of last season, Lynn tossed three scoreless innings, although Chicago lost that game 3-2,

Splits With the Sticks

The White Sox are batting .277 against left-handed pitching this season, with a .346 team OBP and a .430 team slugging percentage. Numbers like those lead us to rank this line-up among the top half-dozen or so in Baseball in this split. However, Chicago is still operating without RH stick Tim Anderson and OF Luis Roberts (.300) is questionable for Monday night.

The Mariners are slashing .230/.309/.388 against right-handed pitching. But the Mariners have also scored at least five runs on five occasions over their last six games.

The Bullpens

The Seattle bullpen owns a 3.30 ERA this season, along with a 1.09 WHIP.

The ChiSox pen owns a 4.11 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP.

MLB Betting Trends

The Mariners are 35-28 at home and 61-40 against right-handed starters.

Totals Report

The Under is 68-59 in White Sox games this season.

The Under is 64-63 in Mariners games.

The Under is 35-25 at T-Mobile Park this season.

White Sox at Mariners Betting Predictions 9/5/22
We're calling this pitching match-up a wash. From there, we'd give Chicago the edge with the sticks, but they might be down a couple of key guys. And we give Seattle the edge in the bullpen comparison. So our thoughts are the original line on this game - a pick 'em - was about right. Also, the Mariners are just going better than the White Sox, who are lucky to be playing in a poor division. We like Seattle for Monday night.
