The Cubs are hot winners of six in a row and it could not be a better time for them to go on a win streak. They are in first place in the NL Central with a 3.5 game lead on the Milwaukee Brewers and a six game lead on the St. Louis Cardinals. Chicago swept St. Louis in their last series where they only gave up six runs in the three games. Time is running out for the Rays and they are out of the AL East race and have to rely on the Wild Card, where they are five games out of the 2nd spot. They had lost three in a row before winning their last game. Montgomery is back in the rotation and his last two starts have not been good ones and the same goes for Archer, who has struggled as of late. Have to go with the hotter team in this one, as the Cubbies have won six in a row and 10 of their last 11 interleague games. Chicago will take this game winning their 7th in a row.
The Brewers have won four of their last five games and they are in 2nd place in the NL Central four games back of the Chicago Cubs and are 2.5 games out of the 2nd NL Wild Card. Milwaukee has scored 10 runs in two of their last three games. The Pirates are reeling, as they have lost five in a row and 10 of their last 11 games. They are well out of the playoff picture 14 games out of the Wild Card and 15.5 games out of first place in the NL Central. In the Pirates five-game skid their pitching has not been bad, but they have only totaled nine runs. Taillon is coming off an outing where he was roughed up and he will struggle again in this game tonight. Suter has not been great as of late, but he is a lefty and the Pirates have lost their last six games facing a left-hand starter. Pittsburgh’s struggles at the plate will continue and the Brewers will take this game handing the Pirates their 6th straight loss.
The Red Sox had won three in a row before their last game, but they are still atop the AL East with a three game lead over the New York Yankees. They had scored 22 runs in their three straight wins before only scoring two in their last game. The Orioles snapped their three-game losing streak in their last game and they have lost nine of their last 11 games. They are well out of the AL East race and they are 5.5 games out of the 2nd AL Wild Card. Fister is coming off a less than impressive outing after being very impressive in his previous two starts. Bundy had a good last outing, but it came in a loss with him not getting much run support. The pitching for the Orioles has been their weakness this season and they gave up 30 runs in losing three straight before giving up four in their last game. However, Bundy will have his 2nd straight solid start in the first game of this series, which the Orioles will win handing the Red Sox their 2nd straight loss.
The Brewers had won three in a row before losing to the Marlins in the 2nd game of this series. They are in 2nd place in the NL Central four games back of the Chicago Cubs and are 3.5 games out of the 2nd NL Wild Card. Milwaukee had only given up six runs in winning three in a row before giving up seven in the loss yesterday. Miami snapped their six-game losing streak yesterday and they are well out of the playoff race with only two wins in their last 13 games. Their pitching had been hammered in losing six in a row giving up a total of 53 runs. Peters has pitched pretty well to begin his MLB career, but has gotten little run support. That will change in this game, as the Marlins lineup will get to Woodruff, who will have his 2nd straight tough start. The Marlins will take this game and win the series sending the Brewers to their 2nd straight loss.
The A’s have dropped two of their last three games and they are in the basement of the AL West. They have only totaled nine runs in their last three games and they have the 2nd fewest road wins in the Majors. The Phillies have won four of their last five games and they are in the basement of the NL East. They have had the fewest wins in baseball for a couple of months, but they recently passed the San Francisco Giants and lead them by one game. Manaea was roughed up in his last outing and look for that to happen again facing a Philadelphia lineup that has totaled 32 runs in their four wins in their last five games. Oakland has not seen Alvarez, who will have a good season debut for the Phillies. Philadelphia will stay hot and take this game, win the series, and hand the A’s their 2nd straight loss.
The Mets are reeling losers of five straight games and they have given up double-digits in runs in three of hose games. They are well out of the playoff race and are 4.5 games back of the Braves in the standings. While the Braves are also out of the playoff picture they have won five of their last six games. They have scored five runs in their last two games and in their previous four games they had totaled 32 runs winning every time. Dickey had the help from his lineup in his last start, which was not good and he has given up 11 earned runs in his last two outings. Look for the Mets to tag him up in this game. On the other side of the coin deGrom will have a good outing and lead the Mets to the win. New York will take this game, snap their five-game losing streak, and go for the series win tomorrow.
The Red Sox have won two in a row and three of their last four games. They are in first place in the AL East three games up on the New York Yankees. Boston has totaled 30 runs in the three wins in their last four games and only three in the one loss. The Rays have lost two in a row and six of their last eight games. They are well out of the AL East race and they are 5.5 games out of the 2nd Wild Card spot. Porcello has not had a good season this year, but even in the loss he had a good last outing facing the Rays. Tampa Bay’s lineup has struggled since the AllStar break, but they will get some runs tonight. Cobb will have his3rd straight solid start and lead the Rays to the win snapping their two-game skid.
The Blue Jays have lost two in a row where they have only totaled three runs. They had won their previous three games, but are in the basement of the AL East and 9.5 games out of the 2nd AL Wild Card spot, which the Twins hold. Minnesota has won three in a row and have also won six of their last eight games. They are out of the AL Central race, but have the 2nd Wild Card three games up on the L.A. Angels and three games back of the New York Yankees. While Minnesota as been led by their lineup this season they have only given up a total of three runs in their three-game win streak. Happ has been great as of late only giving up one earned run in each of his last three starts. He did not have a good outing the last time he faced the Twins, but he will tonight. On the other side of the coin Colon will have another tough outing and an early exit. The Blue Jays will win this game snapping the Twins three-game winning streak.
The White Sox have the fewest wins in the AL, but they can pull into a tie for that category with the Tigers if they win tonight. Chicago has won two in a row and five of their last six games and in that span they have totaled 57 runs. The Tigers are in a tailspin, losers of six in a row where they have given up 48 runs and they now have the worst team ERA in the Majors. Fulmer is coming off a solid start after struggling in his first one of the season. The Tigers have not seen him yet this season and he will have a good outing against them tonight. On the flip side Sanchez was not sharp in his last start and the White Sox lineup will rough him up. Chicago will win this game, which will be their 3rd W in a row, and send the reeling Tigers to their 7th straight loss.
The Mariners lost the first game of this series, but have won the last two and they can win the series with a win tonight. They have scored 18 runs in the last two games of this series and with the Game 3 win they passed the Rangers in the standings. Both are out of the AL West race and Seattle is 3.5 games out of the 2nd Wild Card and Texas is four games out. The Rangers have lost two in a row and four of their last five games. Their pitching has struggled and in the three losses in their last four games they have given up 34 runs. Hernandez is off the DL and makes his first start in over a month and unlike his last two starts he will not receive much run support. Texas will get him for a few runs and Cashner will have another solid outing. In his last three starts he is 2-0 with an ERA of only 1.71 and he will lead Texas to a win in this game and the Rangers will salvage the series split.
The Marlins are reeling, as they have lost four in a row and 14 of their last 16 games. With their recent swoon they are now well out of the playoff picture. The Miami pitching has been roughed up as of late giving up a total of 33 runs in their four-game skid. The Phillies have the fewest wins in the Majors, but they have won three of their last four games including the first two in this series, as they go for the sweep tonight. They have not fared well at the plate for the season, but have totaled 17 runs in taking the first two games of this division series. Urena has pitched well as of late only giving up one run in each of his last two starts. While Thompson had a solid outing in his start before his last one against the Marlins he was roughed up in his last one. Look for Urena to pitch well again tonight and this time around the Marlins will get the W and avoid the series sweep.
The Astros snapped their four-game losing streak with their win over the Angels in the first game of this series. Their pitching had been hammered in their four-game skid giving up a total of 41 runs before blanking the Angels in Game 1 of this series. With Cleveland on their 20-game win streak Houston now has the 2nd best record in the AL, but they have the AL West in the bag with a 14-game lead over the 2nd place Angels. L.A. has lost four of their last five games and their lineup has been struggling as of late totaling 10 runs in their last five games with five of them coming in the lone win. To make the playoffs the Halos have to nab a Wild Card and they are two games back of the Minnesota Twins for the 2nd spot. Fiers had been lit up in his last two starts and Skaggs has been less than stellar as of late. Have to go with L.A. in this one, as their lineup will snap out of their slump facing Fiers, who has given up 14 earned runs in his last two starts. L.A. will win this game and go for the series win tomorrow.
The Mariners had lost two in a row before winning yesterday against the Rangers. They had only totaled four runs in the two losses before scoring 10 against Texas in Game 2 of this division series. Seattle is chasing the Wild Card 3.5 games out of the 2nd spot and they are out of the AL West race. The Rangers have lost three of their last four games and with their loss to the Mariners yesterday they fell to .500. They are also chasing the Wild Card three games out. The Rangers have given up double-digits in runs in two of their last three games. Leake has been solid in his first two starts for the Mariners and I look for him to have a good start tonight. Perez has been given a lot of run support and Texas is 7-0 in his last seven starts even though opposing batters are hitting over .300 against him this season. He will not get a lot of support in this game and get roughed up and the Mariners will take this game.
The Rockies are hot winners of five straight games and while out of the NL West race they are in the 2nd NL Wild Card spot 3.5 games up on the St. Louis Cardinals and four games back of the Diamondbacks. Arizona has lost three out of their last four games after setting a franchise record with 13 straight wins. Arizona ranks 3rd in baseball in team ERA, but in the three losses in their last four games they have given up a total of 23 runs. The Diamondbacks are 9.5 games out of first place in the NL West and have a firm grip on the Wild Card. While the Rockies are only 8-21 in Gray’s last 29 road starts they have won his last two starts on the road. Walker has simply been lights out in his last four outings and in his one previous to his last one he faced the Rockies striking out 10 and tossing five scoreless innings. This game tonight will be a pitcher’s duel, which Walker will win and lead the Diamondbacks to a W snapping Colorado’s five-game win streak.
The Pirates snapped their five-game losing streak with their win over the Brewers in Game 1 of this series. In losing five in a row they only totaled six runs before scoring seven in yesterday’s win. Pittsburgh is 10 games out of first place in the NL Central and 11.5 games out of the 2nd NL Wild Card. The Brewers had won three in a row where they only gave up three runs before losing the Pirates in the series opener. They are 2.5 games back of the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central and four games back of the Colorado Rockies in the Wild Card. Cole has really been up and down as of late, as in his last four starts he has not given up any runs in two of them and in the other two he gave up five earned runs in each. I think he will have a solid outing tonight after his great last one and unlike his last one he will get some run support. Suter will be decent, but the Pirates will get to him for a few runs and Pittsburgh will take this game and go for the series sweep tomorrow.
The Yankees have won two in a row and three of their last four games. They are in 2nd place in the AL East 3.5 games back of the Boston Red Sox, but hold the top spot in the Wild Card with a 3.5 game lead over the Minnesota Twins. The Rays had lost three in a row before a win in their last game. In their three-game skid they gave up 28 runs before only giving up one run in their last game. Tampa Bay is 10.5 games out of first place in the AL East and 3,5 games out of the Wild Card. Not only have the Yankees won Sabathia’s last eight starts against the Rays, but they have won his last five starts facing them in Tampa Bay. Odorizzi is coming off a solid last start, but he was not good in his season debut facing the Yankees where he gave up a pair of HR. Look for him to struggle again facing a Yankees team that scored 16 runs in their last game and ranks 2nd in the “Bigs” in runs scored. Sabathia may not have the best outing, but New York will win again with him on the hill facing the Rays.
The Orioles have lost four and are coming off being swept in a three-game series facing the red-hot Cleveland Indians, who have won 18 in a row. The strength of the team this season has been their lineup, but they have only totaled five runs in their four-game slide. Baltimore is 10 games out of first place in the AL East, but only three games out of the 2nd Wild Card. After losing three in a row the Blue Jays have won two in a row where they have scored 13 runs. They are in the basement of the AL East and are eight games out of the 2nd AL Wild Card. Jimenez has been roughed up, big time, in his last three starts and look for that to continue in this game. Estrada was lit up in his start previous to his last one facing the Orioles, but he will have a much better outing tonight. The Blue Jays will take this home game, win their 3rd in a row, and send the Orioles to their 5th straight loss.
The Angels have lost the first two games of this series and three in a row where they have been outscored 15-5. Both the Angels and Mariners are out of the AL West race, but each is still in the Wild Card hunt with L.A. two games out of the 2nd spot and the Mariners three games out. The Mariners had lost three in a row before winning the first two games of this series where their pitching has been solid only giving up four runs. The Angels have won Bridwell’s last two starts even though he has been shelled. He will get lit up again today, but not get the run support he has got as of late. Ramirez will have another solid outing and the Mariners will take this game and win the series pulling into a tie with the Angels in the race for the Wild Card.
The Marlins have lost two of the first three games of this series and have dropped 12 of their last 14 games. With their recent swoon they are now, pretty much, out of the playoff race well out in the NL East and nine games back of the 2nd Wild Card. The Braves have won three of their last four games and have won two of the first three games of this series by an identical 6-5 score. Atlanta is out of the playoff race. Despaigne looks for his first win since the 2015 season and while he has pitched well lately he has not gotten much run support. He will get some today, as Dickey will struggle for the 4th time in his last five starts. The Marlins will take this game and salvage a series split and keep their faint playoff hopes alive.
The Twins have won three in a row, including the first two games of this series, after dropping three straight. Their lineup has been solid since the All Star break and in their three-game winning streak they have totaled 22 runs. Minnesota is well out of the AL Central race, but they are in the 2nd spot in the Wild Card two games up on the L.A. Angels. The Royals have lost two in a row and three of their last four games and they are 4.5 games back of the Twins in the race for the 2nd Wild Card. Kansas City has lost five of their last six home games and they have given up 27 runs in their last four games. Berrios has not enjoyed much success facing the Royals in his career and he has really struggled on the road this season. Look for those things to continue in this game, as he will not have a good outing and the Twins will lose their 9th straight road game with him on the hill. Kansas City will take this game and try to salvage the series split tomorrow.
