<p>
The Saskatchewan Roughriders head to Montreal for not only the opening game for each club, but the first game period of the 2017 CFL regular season. The host Alouettes opened as a -6 point favorite for this Week 1 game and the betting action has driven that line up a point to -6.5. The total is on the CFL odds board at 50 points.

<p>
Saskatchewan showed some signs of life late in the 2016 with a four-game winning streak both straight-up and against the spread as part of an overall record of just 5-13. The Roughriders lost both games against Montreal last season (SU and ATS) and this year they will try and get off to a fast start with veteran quarterback Kevin Glenn at the helm after coming over from Winnipeg. Look for Glenn to try and get the ball to Duron Carter and Naaman Roosevelt as much as possible on Thursday night.

Saskatchewan Roughriders at Montreal Alouettes Prediction
Montreal will turn to another veteran quarterback in Darian Durant to try and reverse its fortunes from a 7-11 record in 2016 that once again ended any hopes of a return to the playoffs following a two-year hiatus. The Allouettes have some legitimate weapons in newcomer Ernest Jackson and last season’s leading pass catcher Nik Lewis. Montreal still has the edge on defense in this matchup and I am leaning towards it covering the six points at home to get the new CFL season under way.
