The Indians have won seven of their last eight games facing the Twins and won Game 1 of this series yesterday, but they are the road favorite in this game with Tomlin, who has an ERA north of 18.00? Well, the Twins have lost two in a row and three of their last four games and in their last two games they have only totaled two runs. They have cooled off after a hot start, but Hughes has been pretty good so far on the season and in his last start got a lot of run support. That will happen again in this game, as the Twins will break out of their mini slump at the plate and light up Tomlin, who will struggle again in his 3rd straight outing. Minnesota will take this game and even the series at 1-1.
The Tigers have won two of their last three games and they are in first place in the AL Central. The Rays are reeling, as after a solid start they have dropped six of their last seven games including their last three. They have struggled at the plate as of late and that is not good facing Detroit starter Fulmer, who has been pretty solid this season. Detroit has scored 17 runs in their last three games and their offense will get to Andriese tonight even though he is coming off a solid start. The Tigers’ bats will be the difference maker in this game, as Detroit will get the win and send the Rays to their 4th straight loss.
This is a division match up of two teams heading in different directions, as the Astros have won four in a row while the Angels have lost five straight. The Houston offense has been on fire in their win streak where they have totaled 34 runs and have scored 10 runs twice. On the other side of the coin L.A. has really struggled at the plate in their five-game slide only totaling nine runs. Chavez was not sharp in his last outing and he will be facing a red-hot Astros lineup and he will struggle again. Morton will have a decent outing, but Houston will get the W as they will light up the scoreboard yet again. The Astros will get their 5th win in a row and send the Angels to their 6th straight loss.
The Yankees have won seven in a row and they have won all six of their home games on the season. In their win streak they have only given up a total of 18 runs and their starts have an ERA of only 2.54 in their streak. The White Sox have won four of their last five games and in three of those wins they did not score more than three runs. Chicago has had great pitching this season, but they have struggled at the plate. In two games, both wins, they combined for 21 runs, but in their nine other games they have only combined for 16 runs. Holland has been solid in his first two starts of the season, but will get into some trouble facing a New York lineup that has totaled 42 runs On top of that Montgomery will have another decent start and the Yankees will win their 8th in a row.
Take the Yankees -138
The Yankees are the hottest team in the Majors, as they are riding a six-game winning streak. Their pitching has been great as of late giving up a total of 15 runs in the six-game streak. New York is 5-0 at home and they are sending Pineda to the hill, who is coming off a great start. Look for him to have another solid outing facing a Cardinals team that has totaled five runs in the first two games of this series. Wainwright has not looked like the Ace he was in the past and in the Big Apple in this prime time game the Yankees lineup will get to him. He will not have a terrible outing, but he will not get the win, as this game will be like the others in the series in a close affair where the Yankees will come out on top.
This game is a tough call with the tough luck starters taking the hill. The Mariners are 7-3 in Iwakuma’s last 10 starts against the Rangers and the Rangers are 6-1 in Hamels' last 7 starts against the Mariners. I think I have to go with the home team in this one, as the Rangers have only scored one runs in the two games in this series. Tjis will be a pitching dies, but at home Iwakuma will have the better outing and the Mariners will win a low scoring game. Seattle will complete the series sweep and get out of the basement of the AL West.
The Braves have not got off to a good start losing six of their first nine games, but they did open their new stadium with a win in yesterday’s game. Dickey did not have the best of debuts for Atlanta in his last game, but he will have a good outing in this one facing a Padres team that has not faced him much being in the AL in the last four seasons. Richard has really struggled against the Braves in his career and facing them in Atlanta in this game those struggles will continue. The Braves are pumped with their new home and with the win yesterday and they will start the season perfect in their new park picking up the win in this game.
This one is a tough call with a couple of inexperienced pitchers getting the starting nod. The Twins took two of three from the White Sox already this season Chicago. While Minnesota has cooled off after a hot start they are still 6-3 and through nine games last season they had no wins. They have balance on the season and their pitching has been solid. However, I see Adalberto Mejia struggling again like he did in his first outing facing the White Sox and they will get to him again this time around. Covey was not sharp in Spring Training and he will have a decent MLB debut. However, the reason the White Sox will take this game is their lineup will stay hot and put up quite a few runs. Chicago will take this game, which will be their 3rd win in a row and send the Twins to their 3rd loss in four games.
The Blue Jays are reeling with only one win in their nine game, which is their worst start in franchise history. Their offense ranks dead last in the Majors in runs scored and to make matters worse their leading hitter on the season in Josh Donaldson was injured in the last game and is listed as questionable for this one. Sanchez had a solid first start to the season, but the Blue Jays offense struggled, which has been the case all season. However, Toronto will snap their losing streak in this game. Sanchez will have another good outing and the Blue Jays will give him some runs this time around facing MIley, who has not fared well in his career facing them. Toronto will double their win total on the season with a home W in this game.
The Reds are hot winners of four in a row and rank in the top three in the Majors in runs scored and team ERA. Their pitching has been stellar as of late only giving up a total of five runs in their last four games. Their game previous to that they gave up 10 and that was with tonight’s starter Arroyo on the hill. The Brewers have to be the pick in this game, as Nelson had a solid season debut, but not much run support, and is facing a 40-year old Arroyo, who was tagged up in his first outing, which was his first after missing two whole seasons. Unlike his first start Nelson will get some run support with the Brew Crew bats getting to Arroyo and he will have another good outing, as Milwaukee will take the first game of this division series.
The Yankees have won the first two games of this series and they go for the sweep tonight. The New York bats have been getting it done scoring eight runs in each of the two games of this series and 23 total in winning three in a row. They have five full-time players that are all hitting over .300 on the young season. The Yankees have not picked up many wins in Severino’s last several starts, but he will get run support and have a decent outing in the Big Apple. The lineup for the Yankees will be the difference in this game, as they will stay hot and get to Andriese chasing him out of the game early. New York will take this game and complete the home sweep avenging losing two of three to the Rays in their first series of the season.
Dating back to last season the Royals have lost their last five home games. However, Jason Hammel will help snap that skid. The new Royals starter was decent in hisfirst outing of the season, which was on the road, and he will have a good outing in his KC home debut. Hammel has had success against the A’s in his career and has been solid in his 12 seasons in the Majors in April. Triggs was pretty solid in his opener, but he struggled on the road last season and those struggles will continue tonight. The Royals will take the 2nd game of this season and send the A’s to below .500 for the season.
Velasquez pitched well against the Mets last season, but with the Phillies losing their last six home games with him getting the call I cannot go with them in this game. The Mets bats lit up the Phillies in yesterday’s game and they will get to Velasquezin this game. While Wheeler may not have a great outing he willnot be as bad as his season debut. This game will be a high scoring one and one that the Mets will win to complete the sweep.
The Diamondbacks are off to a hot start and while they lead the Majors in runs scored they were held to only one run in yesterday’s loss to the Giants. All of their wins have been at home this season. On the other side of the coin the Giants have all their losses on the road this season. They lost two of three games in the season opening series at Arizona, but they will take this series with a Game 2 win tonight. Samardzija will have much better home outing in this one after getting rocked in his first start in Arizona. The Giants have scored nine runs total in winning their last two games and they will get some tonight off Ray. Unlike the first game between Ray and Samardzija this will be more of a low scoring affair that San Francisco will win to get their 3rd win in a row.
The Pirates are coming off a sweep of the Braves, but Atlanta may be the worst team in the Majors this season. In interesting trend the Pirates have lost their last six Monday games. That trend will continue and they will not lose because it is Monday, but because they are facing Finnegan. He ended last season well and gad a fantastic first start to the season. In talking about that start after the game Cincinnati manager Bryan Price said best stating, “very impressive.” He will lead the Reds to the win for the 2nd in a row while snapping Pittsburgh’s three-game winning streak.
The Nationals only rank 29th in the Majors in team ERA, but that is mainly because they gave up 17 runs in a loss previous to their last game. Roark is coming off a solid first outing of the season and the Nats have won nine of his last 11 starts against a team with a losing record, which the Cardinals have. Wainwright has been solid against Washington in his last few starts against them, but he will be outpitched by Roark tonight in what will be a low scoring game. Washington will back Roark with a few runs of support and the Nationals will take the first game of this NL series and the Cardinals will lose their 3rd in a row.
While the Dodgers have lost their last eight games facing a left-hand starter they will get to Anderson today, as he was less than stellar in his first start of the season despite getting the win. Maeda did not have a bad first start, but got zero run support in the loss. That will change today Colorado and while the total has gone under in both games of this season that may change in this game and odds-makers think so with a total of 11 runs. With the L.A. offense getting to Anderson and Maeda having a solid outing those things equal a Dodgers win.
The Rangers are the AL West defending champions, but they have gotten off to a slow start. They scored 10 runs in winning the first game of this series, but only scored one in the 2nd game in a loss. Perez was not bad in his last outing and he will have a solid start in this game at home. He had a Quality Start in his last game and the Rangers have won nine his last 14 games after a Quality Start in his previous game. This game will be much like the first game, as the Rangers will score a lot of runs and not give up many. They will take this game and the series winning only their 2nd game on the young season. With the loss Oakland will fall under .500.
Nolasco pitched well for the Halos last season, but has not had much success against the Mariners in his career. Robinson Cano is 6 for12 off him and Nelson Cruz has three HR off him in only 15 at bats. The Mariners bats will get to him in this game and they will not need to score a lot of runs, as Hernandez will have a good outing. The Ace of the Seattle staff was not bad in his Opening Day start and he will thwart the L.A. lineup and lead the M’s to their 2nd win of the season tonight.
