The Astros are coming off a tough ALCS where the Yankees took them to seven games with the home team winning every game. after losing the three games in the series in New York where they were outscored 19-5 they won the last two games at home outscoring the Yankees 11-1. In the five road playoffs games this post-season Houston is 1-4 and only scored eight runs in those games. L.A. took care of the Cubs in five games in the NLCS and their pitching was great in the series only giving up a total of eight runs. Keuchel had a solid season, but was not sharp in his last outing, which was on the road, and look for the Dodgers to get to him in this game. On the other side of the coin while Kershaw has had his issues in the playoffs in his career he is coming off a great last outing and he will have another one in what will be his first career start in the World Series. The Dodgers will take the first game of this series behind their Ace in Kershaw, who will keep the Houston lineup in check.
If the Yankees win tonight, they will become only the 14th team in playoff history to come back from an 0-2 deficit. They had won the previous three games of this series all at home, where they totaled 19 runs. The Astros avoided elimination with their Game 6 win with the offensive outburst after scoring a combined five runs in the three straight losses in New York. Sabathia was lights out in his last outing while Morton was not getting lit up. I expect Morton to rebound off his poor road outing based on his home record this season of 10-3 W/L, 3.34 ERA and 1.14 WHIP. However, I am also confident that Sabathia will have another strong outing. While the Astros are 5-0 at home in the playoffs this season and the Yankees are 0-7 in their last ALCS road games I believe those trends will end tonight. New York’s only road win in this year’s post season was in the deciding Game 5 of the ALDS in Cleveland and Sabathia and the bullpen will lead them to the promised land at plus money. It will be the Yankees and the Dodgers in the 2017 World Series.
After winning the first two games of the series at home the Astros were swept in three games in New York and find themselves with their backs against the wall down 3-2 in the series. They won the first two games by a 2-1 score, but they were outscored in the three losses in New York 19-5. Houston was the highest scoring team in the Majors this season (5.43 RPG), but in the five games in this series they have totaled nine runs (1.80 RPG). The Yankees bats came alive at home winning the three straight games and while they have lost seven of their last eight playoff games on the road the one win was in the ALCS facing the Indians in Cleveland in the closeout Game 5. Severneo’s best start in the post-season came in Game 2, but he only lasted four innings and he was hit hard in the two regular season games against the Astros. Verlander has been great all around since coming to the Astros and he will lead them to a win tonight forcing a Game 7 in this series.
The Dodgers lost Game 4 of this series and that snapped their eight-game win streak and was their first loss in the playoffs. Their pitching has still been throughout the series allowing eight runs over the four games. The Cubs avoided the series sweep with the Game 4 victory, but they are still on the brink of elimination and overall have lost four of their last six games. Their pitching staff had been lit up for15 runs in the first three games of this series before giving up the deuce last night. The Dodgers have their Ace on the mound tonight, but in this season’s playoffs and over his career he has not pitched like the “top gun” in the post-season. He has given up six earned runs in nine innings of work in two starts against the Cubs this season. I feel like he’ll come up big in this game with a strong start. The Cubs starter Quintana has been solid in the post-season and while I expect him to perform well, I’m banking on Kershaw to win the pitcher’s duel. I’ll be betting on Los Angeles to move on tonight to the World Series.
The Astros have lost the last two games of this series and it is knotted at 2-2 with the home team winning every game. The Astros bullpen fell apart in the Game 4 loss with the Yankees scoring five of their six runs off the relievers in the 7th and 8th inning. Houston was the highest scoring team in the regular season, but in this series they have only totaled nine runs. The Yankees have scored 14 runs in winning the last two games while they only totaled two in losing the first two games of the series in Houston. The Astros are the slight road betting favorite tonight and the main reason is that they have Keuchel on the hill. He dominated New York in Game 1 of this series and the Astros are 6-1 in his last seven starts against the Yankees and 4-0 in his last four road starts facing them. On the other side of the coin the Yankees are 0-5 in Tanaka’s last five starts against the Astros. Look for those trends to continue, as Keuchel will have another great start and lead the Astros to the Game 5 win, as they will head home to look to close out the series.
The Dodgers are up 2-0 in this series and in Game 2 Justin Turner played the hero with a walk-off three run HR on the same day Kirk Gibson hit the walk-off HR against the A’s in the World Series in1988. L.A. has won all five of their playoff games and seven straight overall and while their lineup has not lit up the Cubs going for nine runs in the two games they have only given up three runs. Many 2nd guessed the Cubs in the Game 2 loss, as their closer was not even in the game in the 9th inning. They need to regroup and get the win tonight to avoid the 3-0 hole. Darvish has been great in his last few starts and he will have another solid outing tonight. Hendricks was not very sharp in his last outing and his last four starts have been on the road. The Cubs are 1-1 in his last two home starts where he has gone 13 innings and given up four earned runs. Game 3 tonight will be just like Game’s 1 and 2, as the Dodgers will get great pitching and score a few runs. L.A. will get the win in this game to take a 3-0 series lead against the defending World Series champions.
The Astros are up 2-0 in this series after winning the first two games at home each by a score of 2-1. While they have the highest scoring lineup in the Majors their pitching has been great in the post-season where they have not given up more than four runs in any game. The Yankees are in an 0-2 hole and while they only gave up two runs in each of the two games their lineup struggled. They had totaled 12 runs in the last two games of the ALDS before only scoring two in the first two games of this series. Morton has had a long break, but it will not do him good, as the Yankees lineup will wake up in this game facing him. Sabathia will have a solid home start and with the lineup finally scoring some runs they will win this game and get back in the series.
The Cubs have lost two of their last three games where they only scored two runs in the losses and nine in the win. They turn to Jon Lester in this Game 2 and the Cubs have lost his two appearances in the playoffs this season. The Dodgers have won all four of their playoff games and in their last two games they have only given up a total of three runs. In the playoffs L.A. has outscored their opponents 25-13. Hill did not face the Cubs in the regular season and the last time he faced them was in last season’s NLDS where he went six innings and did not give up any runs in a Dodgers win. He has been solid as of late and will have a good outing tonight. Lester will not get shelled, but the L.A. lineup will get to him and add that to Hill’s solid start and it equals a Dodgers win.
The Yankees had their three-game win streak snapped with their loss in Game 1 of this series. Their pitching lineup only scored one run in the Game 1 loss, but their pitching was solid and in their last four games they have only given up a total of eight runs. The Astros have won two in a row and four of their last five games. They have won their last two games by one run and they have not scored over five runs in their last three games. Severeno had a good last start, but he struggled against the Astros this season. That will continue in this game, as the Astros lineup will wake up in this game and get to Severeno early and often. On the other side of the coin Verlander will have yet another good outing and with the lineup helping him out Houston will take this game and a 2-0 series lead heading to New York.
The Yankees lost the first two games of the ALDS before winning three straight to take the series against the Indians. After giving up 13 runs in the first two games of the series they only gave up a total of five in the last three games. While New York is two games under .500 on the road this season they did close out the ALDS against Cleveland on the road. The Astros took care of the Boston Red Sox in four games in the ALDS where they totaled 21 runs in the three wins and only three in the one loss. Tanaka has been lights out in his last two starts and he has not given up an earned runs in 14 innings of work. He will be facing a Houston lineup that was the highest scoring team in the Majors this season. Keuchel had a good start in the ALDS and in his lone start against the Yankees this season he went six innings and gave up one earned run in a 3-2 Houston win. He will out-duel Tanaka in what will be a pitchers duel and lead the Astros to the Game 1 win in a low scoring affair.
This game is the winner take all Game 5 and the winner will face the Dodgers in the NLCS. The Cubs were shut out in Game 4 and they have only scored two runs in their last two games. Hendricks was lights out in the Game 1 win for Chicago and he will have a good outing in this series clinching game. Tanner Roark or Gio Gonzlaez will likely get the starting nod for the Nationals, as the starter has not been decided. Washington has won two of the last three games of this series where they scored 11 runs in the wins and only one in the loss. The lineup will struggle tonight to get to Hendricks, but the Cubs will also have trouble scoring runs no matter who starts for the Nationals. Hendricks will have the better outing between the starters and like Game 6 of last season’s NLCS and Game 7 of the World Series he will lead Chicago to the win.
The Dodgers have won the first two games of this series at home where they outscored the Diamondbacks 17-10. Darvish has not had much success in his limited playoff experience, but he has been lights out lately only giving up one earned run in his last 19 innings. The Diamondbacks pitching was not sharp in the first two games of this series in L.A. and while they have their Ace in Greinke on the hill he has not pitched like an Ace in his last few starts. However, in this game I expect him to turn things around and have a great outing. Darvish will give up a few runs and that is all Greinke will need, as unlike in L.A. this game will be a low scoring affair and this time around the Diamondbacks will get the win to stay alive in the series.
The Indians have won the first two games of this series and won Game 2 in dramatic fashion in 13 innings. They have won three in a row and six of their last seven games overall and they have the best record in the AL. The Yankees scored eight runs in Game 2 after being shut out in Game 1, but it was still not enough. Overall, New York has lost three of their last four games. Carrasco has pitched great in his last two outings and he will have another solid start in this playoff game. Tanaka will not get shelled like he was in his lone start against the Indians this season, but he will not shut down the Cleveland lineup. The Indians have all the momentum and they will ride that in this game and with a good outing from Carrasco they will win and complete the series sweep.
The Astros have a 2-0 lead in this playoff series and they have won the first two games by the score of 8-2. They have won three in a row and eight of their last nine games. Houston took three of four games from the Red Sox in Boston in the last series of the season and in them playing their last seven games against them they have only given up more than three runs once and that was in the lone loss. The Red Sox have their backs against the wall down 0-2 and they need to win this game. Their lineup has been struggling, as had their pitching being outscored 16-4 in the series. Peacock was pretty good to end the season and had a good outing in his last start, which was facing the Red Sox. On the other side of the coin Fister has not looked sharp in his last two home outings with his last coming against Houston. Peacock will have a decent outing in this game, but the Houston lineup will be the difference maker, as they will score many runs once again, take this game, and complete the series sweep heading to the ALCS.
The Diamondbacks had won two in a row before losing the first game of this series. While they rank 3rd in the Majors in team ERA they have given up 17 runs in their last two games. Arizona had won six straight against the Dodgers before losing Game 1. The Dodgers took the first game of this series and they have won three in a row and seven of their last eight games. They have to be confident going into Game 2 winning the first game even though Ace Clayton Kershaw had a shaky outing. Ray has dominated the Dodgers in his last three starts facing them and Arizona is 5-1 in his last six starts against L.A. While Hill has pitched great in his last three starts he has struggled facing the Diamondbacks this season. Hill will not be lit up in this game, but he will give up a few runs while Ray will have another great start facing L.A. The Diamondbacks will take this game behind a strong performance from Ray and even the series at 1-1.
The Cubs have won five of their last six games and they have a 1-0 lead over the Nationals in this NLDS. They took home field advantage with the Game 1 road win and have a hot hurler on the mound in Lester. In Chicago’s last five games they have only given up a total of seven runs with four coming in one game. The Nationals’ bats did nothing in the first game of this series and they have lost three in a row. While they have a potent lineup they have been held to one or fewer runs in two of their last three games. Gonzalez struggled down the stretch this season and the Cubs will get to him early and often in this Game 2.. On the other side of the coin Lester will have his 3rd straight solid outing. Chicago will take this game and home to Wrigley Field with a 2-0 lead in this playoff series.
The Diamondbacks had lost two in a row before winning their last two games and riding their lineup in their last game scoring 11 runs in a win over the Rockies in the Wild Card game. They have won their last six games against the Dodgers, but face Ace Clayton Kershaw, who dominated them this season. The Dodgers finished the season with the best record in the Majors and they ended the regular season well winning two in a row and six of their last seven games. Walker was solid facing the Dodgers this season and his last win overall was facing them in L.A. on September 6th where he went six innings and only allowed one earned run in a 3-1 Arizona win. Kershaw was not his usual self in two of his last three starts, but L.A. has won his last four starts against the Diamondbacks and that trend will continue. The Dodgers will not light up Walker, but he will not totally tame their bats while Kershaw will do just that to the Arizona lineup. Behind their Ace the Dodgers will win the first game of this NLDS in a low scoring affair.
The Cubs had won four in a row before losing in their last game of the regular season. Their pitching was solid at the and if the season, as in their last five games they only gave up a total of nine runs. The Nationals lost their last two games of the regular season and they lost four of their seven games against the Cubs this season. However, Strasburg has been great in the 2nd half of the season and he will be facing a potent Chicago lineup. He gave up a few earned runs to them in a win in June, but he will really tame their bats tonight and pitch a gem. On the other side of the coin Hendricks will not be as fortunate, as the Nationals will get to him early and often. Washington has lost five of their last six home playoffs games, but that trend will non continue. Strasburg will have another stellar outing and lead the Nats to a win in the first game of this playoff series.
The Yankees have won three of their last four games and won the AL Wild Card game in their last contest. Their offense struggled some at the end of the regular season totaling seven wins in their last three games before scoring eight in the Wild Card game. The Indians finished the season with the best record in the AL and they won four of their last five games. They have the best team ERA in the Majors and in their last five games they have only given up a total of eight runs. Gray was lit up in two of his last three starts, but in the lone win in that span he was on the road and only gave up one earned run. Bauer had a great 2nd half this season and beat the Yankees twice. New York had lost five straight playoffs games before beating the Twins in the Wild Card while the Indians are 4-0 in their last 4 Divisional Playoff home games. Look for those trends to continue tonight. Bauer will have a good outing while Gray will not and the Indians will take the first game of this playoff series with their lineup getting to Gray early and often.
These two teams met in a four-game set in Boston in the last series of the regular season With the Astros taking three of four games. The Red Sox lineup struggled in the series totaling 13 runs with six coming in the lone win. Boston did not end the season well losing five of their last seven games while the Astros won six of their last seven games. Sale Which Sale will show up in this game? The one who gave up at least four earned runs in two of his last three starts or the one that gave up no earned runs in two of his last four starts? Verlander was a great addition to the Astros and the former Detroit Ace only had an ERA of 1.06 in his six starts for his new club. Sale will have a good outing and not get shelled like his last start, but Verlander will stay hot and have the better outing. He will be the main reason the Astros win this game, as they will take Game 1 of this ALDS in a low scoring pitcher’s duel.
