Seattle Seahawks vs. Pittsburgh Steelers SNF Odds & Pick
Betting Odds

The Seattle Seahawks take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in a battle of 2-3 teams on Sunday Night Football. With the winner getting to .500, as opposed to being a daunting 2-4, the stakes are obviously high in this one. The Steelers got a much-needed positive development last week in the form of a 27-19 win over the Broncos. It nearly came apart at the end, but when a struggling team gets a win, you don't nitpick. The Seahawks weren't so fortunate, recipients of a 26-17 loss to the Rams on Thursday Night Football, where Russell Wilson was injured and lost for the time being. Can Seattle fight through that setback, or will the Steelers pick up where they left off last week?

The Wilson Factor

On one hand, there is hardly a team that would seem to be more affected by a quarterback loss than the Seahawks. Losing Wilson is like Green Bay losing Rodgers or the Ravens losing Lamar Jackson. It becomes a whole different team. Going from Russell Wilson to Geno Smith is a falloff of epic proportions. On the other hand, they are going against what has hardly been a steady force in the Steelers in a game where points figure to be somewhat precious. Maybe with a week to get ready, Smith can come up with a decent game and keep the Seahawks in a close contest, which would be enough to turn the trick.

One has to figure if Wilson were in there, the Seahawks would be favored by a few points in this game. Now 5-point dogs, is Wilson's absence worth merely a TD? Not to engage the oddsmakers over those lines, but there are some concerns. Seattle's main weapons need good quarterbacking for this offense to work. It would be different if they relied on the run game, but that part of their game is banged-up with Chris Carson missing the last game and their lead back being a so-so Alex Collins.

Good Spot for Pittsburgh?

On the surface, one would think so. They get Seattle, which seemed to be a problem, but with Wilson out, it's a pretty favorable matchup. In addition, we saw Ben Roethlisberger getting this offense on the right track last week, looking as comfortable as he has all season. He got big games from Chase Claypool and Diontae Johnson while seeing rookie back Najee Harris start to fulfill that Le'Veon Bell role with a huge game. Against a Seattle defense that has reverted to poor play more often than not this season, this is a home spot where the Steelers can take it to an out-of-conference road Seahawks defense that no longer has Russell Wilson out there moving the chains for support.

One-game windows, however, are not reasons for celebration. Denver has, in fact, been pretty impotent the last few weeks, and even they were charging late with the Steelers narrowly averting the late big comeback. That Steelers' O-line could give the maligned Seattle pass-rush an opportunity to shine. And there are still a lot of weapons, even without Wilson, to wield on a Steelers' defense that has been leaky a lot this season. Granted, the Seahawks' run-game isn't what it once was, and Smith is a dicey proposition behind this O-line facing a tough Steelers' front. But then again, it might not make a ton in a game that figures to be feature modest scoring. Now is when the Seahawks really need their defense to do one of their typical about-faces in the right direction. And last year, we saw this Seattle "D" go from how they look lately to a defense that infrequently gave up a lot. Maybe this is a week where they can somewhat keep it together.

Seattle at Pittsburgh Week 7 Prediction ATS
There is admittedly a lot of ammo for Pittsburgh backers in this out-of-conference road spot for a Wilson-less Seattle squad facing a major team crisis. Getting behind Geno Smith in 2021 behind a dicey line and a banged-up run game isn't the easiest thing to do. I just see the Steelers being a team where it won't be that hard to get them to revert to prior form, in which case covering numbers becomes a tall order for them. I think the Seahawks keep this one close and cover the spread.
