Vegas at Winnipeg Game Overview

Vegas has been the biggest story in the NHL this season winning the Pacific Division as an expansion team. It has continued that success in the playoffs with an opening-round sweep of Los Angeles followed by a 4-2 series victory over San Jose in the conference semifinals. The Golden Knights only needed a combined seven goals to beat the Kings four times before outscoring the Sharks 22-14 with the total going OVER in four of the six games.

Behind a balanced scoring attack that includes six different players with at least three postseason goals and a veteran goaltender in Marc-Andre Fleury, Vegas has already proven it can get it done at both ends of the ice. Center's Jonathan Marchessault and William Karlsson have combined for 21 points in 10 playoff games, and Fleury comes into this series with a stellar 1.53 goals-against average through his ten starts.

This match will be the Jets' first trip to the conference finals in franchise history. They made a statement in Game 7 against Nashville on Thursday night with a dominant 5-1 victory as +136 underdogs. They outscored the Predators 22-8 in the four games they won verse a combined six-goal deficit in the three losses. Winnipeg started the postseason with a 4-1 series victory against Minnesota with the total staying UNDER in four of the five games. The total went OVER in four of its last six games against Nashville.

Winnipeg is another team that can beat you on either end of the ice. Right winger Blake Wheeler led the Jets in total points (91) and assists (68) in the regular season, and he has posted 15 points in 12 playoff games. The hottest hand in the postseason belongs to center Mark Scheifele with 11 goals and five assists. Winnipeg has gone with Connor Hellebuyck in goal, and he has met the challenge with a GAA of 2.25 to go along with a solid .927 save percentage.

Vegas at Winnipeg Prediction 05/12/2018
Each team lacks postseason experience with the exception of what they have been able to accomplish so far. They have each shown the ability to win at home, and on the road, so Saturday’s matchup should play out like the first few rounds of a heavyweight title bout. I am looking for a defensive battle that stays UNDER the 5.5-goal total line as each team’s goalie helps to set the early tone for this series.
