Ottawa at New York Game Overview

The home team as successfully prevailed through the first five games of this series following Saturday’s 5-4 victory by Ottawa in overtime as a +107 underdog on its home ice. The total went way OVER the closing five-goal betting line in that game and it has now gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in the last four games of this series. Ottawa went 3-0 against Boston on the road in the opening round of the playoffs before losing two road games against New York by a combined score of 8-2.

To avoid a deciding Game 7 later this week, the Senators will need another strong effort from an offensive attack that has been able to score three or more goals in five of its 11 playoff games. This hit or miss approach has resulted in a total of just eight goals in the other six postseason contests. Another key will be the improved play of Craig Anderson in goal. His goals-against average in the postseason stands at 2.53 after giving up a total of 17 goals in his last four starts.

New York appeared to have taken control of this series with a pair of 4-1 victories at home in Game’s 3 and 4 and it had a one-goal lead in Game 5 with less than two minutes left to play in regulation. The Rangers went down two games to one against Montreal before ending that series in six games with three victories in a row. Prior to this series, the total stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in five of the six games against the Canadiens.

The Rangers were ranked fourth in the NHL in scoring in the regular season with an average of 3.1 goals per game and they have now tallied at least four goals in each of their last four contests. New York has gotten a strong contribution from a number of different scorers during the postseason with six different players posting at least three goals. It best chance to force a Game 7 with a win on Tuesday night still lies in the play of Henrik Lundqvist in goal. In 11 playoff starts, his GAA stands at 2.18 with a .930 save percentage.

Ottawa Senators at New York Rangers Game 6 Prediction
The momentum in this series has swung back and forth a few times with the home team always finding a way to get a win. It appears to lie with Ottawa given the way it battled to win Game 5, but closing out this series on the road could be a tall task.
While there is a fairly high risk/reward in the current New York moneyline for Tuesday night’s contest, I still do not see the Rangers losing this game on their home ice. I also have the total staying UNDER in Game 5, but the “best bet” pick in a series that appears destined to go the distance is New York.
