Seattle Seahawks at Cleveland Browns Overview

Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks come into this game riding a two-game win streak capped off most recent by a narrow win over the Los Angeles Rams in Seattle last Thursday. Closing as a 1.5-point favorite, the Hawks were unkind to their takers as they won 30-29, producing a splitting-hair loss for backers against the spread.

Cleveland Browns

After the Browns had finally shown why they were picked by many to with the AFC North with an upset win of the Baltimore Ravens two weeks ago, Cleveland laid a massive egg on Monday Night Football when it went west to face off with the San Francisco 49ers. The Brownies were nowhere close to covering the game closing as a five-point dog and getting throttled 31-3 by the Niners in the Bay City.

Reasons to Back Seattle

Some of the sharper sportsbooks opened with Cleveland as a 1.5-point dog of the gate, while many other platforms initially came in with the Browns as a 2.5-point favorite. This resonates strongly with me. As a result of the sharper sportsbooks taking a position in this game, the others that opened with Cleveland as the chalk had to adjust quickly. It's understandable as to why the Hawks would be the favorite in this game. They are overall playing the better brand of football at the moment, and from an offensive perspective alone, Seattle averages 8.2 points per game more than their counterparts. (Seattle is ranked 8th in points per game while Cleveland sits 25th in the NFL scoring just 18.4 points per contest.) This is exceptionally disconcerting for a Browns team that failed to find the end-zone in its last outing while giving up an average of 28 points in its previous two contests. Points will be of the essence in this equation, and the Browns are already playing with a massive handicap.

Reasons to Avoid Cleveland

Outside of the victory against Baltimore two weeks ago, Cleveland does not have a credible win to its name this entire season. It is hard to get behind the Browns here against a Seahawks team that very well likely has the front-runner for MVP presently under center. On the contrary, Baker Mayfield has been pedestrian in his sophomore stint in the NFL. He has tossed more interceptions than touchdowns (Eight INT's to his four TD's) and has completed just 55.9 % his passes. It is hard to fathom Mayfield outdueling Russell Wilson, who has been magnificent. On the year, Wilson has completed 73.1% of his attempts, thrown for 1,409 yards, and has tossed 12 touchdowns and no interceptions. With numbers as prolific as these and a low line to cover, Cleveland is a tough sell in this spot.

Seattle at Cleveland Prediction 10/13/19
In their loss against San Francisco, Cleveland allowed opposing Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to toss two touchdowns while going 20 for 29. I can only imagine what Russell Wilson will do if he is offered the same opportunity. The Brownies also allowed San Fran to produce a 100-yard rusher when Running Back Matt Brieda ran for 115 yards and found the end-zone twice (one by the ground and one through the air). With Wilson being known for being nimble on his feet, this creates another element of peril for Cleveland. Should the Browns show up and offer a spirited effort, they may lose this game by a mere field goal. However, should the Monday Night loss be taken to heart, Cleveland can very well find itself routed on its own yard by the Seahawks. Either way, I am laying the points.
