Philadelphia at Chicago Game Overview

The Eagles needed to run the table against the Los Angeles Rams on the road, Houston at home and Washington on the road just to have a chance to defend last season’s Super Bowl title. They also needed Minnesota to lose to Chicago in Week 17 to secure the final playoff spot in the NFC. This was all part of a straight-up 5-1 run in their last six games. Philadelphia went 3-2-1 against the spread during the same span with the total going OVER or ending as a PUSH in three of its previous four contests.

Nick Foles took over for an injured Carson Wentz in last year's postseason run to Super Bowl MVP. He has been nothing short of spectacular in his previous three starts for an injured Wentz this time around with 962 yards passing, and six touchdown throws. He tied an NFL record for completions against Washington with 25 in a row as part of his 84.8 completion percentage on 33 passing attempts. The entire team has stepped up its game over the last three games to help salvage a season that was headed off the rails.

Chicago has been playing at a very high level since late October with a 9-1 record in its last 10 games both SU and ATS. It won Sunday’s season finale against the Vikings 24-10 closing as a six-point road underdog. The Bears are also 12-4 ATS this season with the total staying UNDER in their last three games. They have won seven of eight home games (SU and ATS), and they have covered in nine of 12 games closing as favorites.

The Bears’ defense has been the main reason for this sudden rise from worst to first in the NFC North. Credit second-year quarterback Mitch Trubisky for stepping up his game in the starting role, but things get a bit easier to manage when the other side of the ball is only giving up an average of 17.7 points per game. The defense has not allowed more than 17 points in any of its last four outings.

Eagles at Bears Prediction 01/06/2019
Chicago should win this game at home behind one of the best defenses in the league. However, betting against Foles leading the Eagles in the postseason has proven to be a losing proposition. I cannot see the defending champs going down without a fight in a game that will remain much closer than most experts have predicted.
