New York at Minnesota Game Overview

New York blew a golden opportunity to come into this game undefeated as well following earlier victories against Dallas on the road and New Orleans at home, but a sloppy 29-27 loss to Washington last Sunday as a 3.5-point home favorite dropped its record to 2-1 straight-up and to 1-2 against the spread. The total went OVER 47 against the Redskins after staying UNDER in its first two games.

The Giants looked like a playoff team in their first two games, but last Sunday’s collapse against the Redskins raises all sorts of concerns on both sides of the ball. The same defense that held New Orleans to just 13 points in Week 2 gave up over 300 yards through the air to the Redskins. Eli Manning’s best start in recent memory was erased with two costly interceptions in the fourth quarter that set up Washington’s come from behind win. It remains to be seen which New York team will show up on Monday night.

The Vikings lost their two best players on offense and that still has not stopped them from going 3-0 both SU and ATS to start the year. Following a huge 17-14 victory over rival Green Bay as one-point home underdogs in Week 2, they went on the road last week and hammered Carolina 22-10 as six-point underdogs to prove that last season’s 11-5 record was not a fluke. The total stayed UNDER in both of those games behind a defense that is ranked third in the NFL in points allowed (13.3).

When Teddy Bridgewater went down late in the preseason, Minnesota traded with Philadelphia for quarterback Sam Bradford to fill the void. While it paid a steep price with a first round pick, Bradford has been solid in his first two starts with 457 yards passing and three touchdown throws against no interceptions. When Adrian Peterson went down in Week 2, the Vikings turned to Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiasta to fuel the run game. That did not work out so well with just 58 yards rushing against the Panthers. The core strength of this team is still a defense that already has nine takeaways in three games.

New York at Minnesota Prediction
Last Sunday the Giants demonstrated many of the traits that have led to three-straight losing seasons, while the Vikings rallied as a team in the face of devastating injuries to keep their winning streak alive.
I am not about to bet on New York turning things around or Minnesota slowing down. Betting on sports most times dictates that you keep on riding the hot hand until it cools and that is what I am doing this Monday night with my “best bet” pick that the Vikings cover at home.
