New York at Dallas Game Overview

The Giants broke through a three-year slump of losing records with 11 straight-up victories last season and a return to the postseason for the first time since winning the Super Bowl in 2010. Two of those wins came against the Cowboys including a tight 20-19 victory on opening day as one-point road favorites. New York went on to post an 8-6-2 record against the spread with the total staying UNDER in 12 of its 16 regular season games.

Eli Manning is back at quarterback starting his 14th season in the NFL, but the status of his top receiver Odell Beckham Jr. remains up in the air for Sunday night as he continues to nurse a bad ankle. The Giants added veteran wide receiver Brandon Marshall to the mix, but he has also been hampered with some minor injuries over the past few weeks. The big key to this game could be a New York defense that was second in the NFL last season in points allowed (17.8).

Dallas made the biggest move in the NFC East last season going from just four SU wins in 2015 to a 13-3 record and a division title. The Cowboys started the year with a highly profitable 9-0-1 run ATS, but they fizzled out down the stretch with just one cover in their last seven games including a 34-31 loss to Green Bay in the playoffs as five-point home favorites. The total went OVER in three of their final four home games last year.

The betting line for this game took a slight jump when it was announced that embattled second-year running back Ezekiel Elliott would be eligible to play on Sunday night despite the fact he is facing a six-game league suspension. The bigger story could be the play of second-year quarterback Dak Prescott coming off a “Rookie of the Year” performance in 2016. Dallas was another team that knew how to keep opposing teams out of the end zone with a points-allowed average of 19.1.

New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys Week 1 Prediction
Both battles last season turned into a low-scoring defensive grind and that is exactly what I am expecting on Sunday night regardless of which playmakers are in or out of the lineup. I like New York with the uptick in the spread to four points, but the ‘best bet’ pick in this one is still the UNDER on the 47.5-point total line.
