Miami at Carolina Game Overview

The Dolphins’ season is at a crossroads coming off back-to-back losses to Baltimore on the road and to Oakland at home. They are now an even 4-4 on the year straight-up with a 3-3-2 record against the spread. The total has gone OVER the closing betting line in their last three outings after staying UNDER in their first five games this year. Miami is an even 2-2 ATS in its first four road games this season.

Jay Cutler returned to the starting lineup against the Raiders last Sunday after missing some time with a rib injury. He completed an efficient 34-of-42 passing attempts for 311 yards and three touchdowns in the losing cause. The big issue in the 27-24 loss was Miami’s inability to slow Oakland down on defense. The Dolphins are ranked last in the league in scoring with 14.5 points per game and they are allowing an average of 22.4 points on the other side of the ball.

Carolina was able to keep pace in the NFC South with last Sunday’s 20-17 victory against Atlanta as a three-point home underdog a week after it got past Tampa Bay 17-3 on the road as a 1.5-point underdog. These two division victories boosted the Panthers to 6-3 SU with a 5-3-1 record ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in their last three games. Carolina is 1-2-1 ATS at home this season and 1-3-1 ATS when closing as a favorite.

As goes Cam Newton so goes the Panthers’ offense. While he has completed 179 of his first 287 passing attempts for 1,978 yards and 10 touchdowns, he continues to do most of his damage on the ground with 341 rushing yards and four scores on 69 carries. The biggest strength of this team still lies with a defense that is ranked first in the league in yards allowed (274.1) and fourth in points allowed (17.7).

Miami at Carolina Week 10 Prediction
Points could be hard to come by on Monday night given what we have seen from Miami’s offense and Carolina’s defense this season, but I am still not convinced that the Panthers are good enough to command a double-digit spread as home favorites. The Dolphins have played bad recently, but they are not that bad of team overall. You can also add the fact that Carolina has been inconsistent at times on both sides of the ball. I may be taking the bait here, but I am taking the 10 points and the road underdog ATS on Monday night.
