NFL Betting Lines

The Week 16 NFL betting odds opened this game with New York favored by a point or so, with an over/under of right around 38. Betting action has driven the jets up to -2.5 and the total down to 36.5

Jaguars-Jets NFL Betting Preview

Jacksonville is 4-2 SU, 4-1-1 ATS its last six times out after coming from behind to beat Dallas at home last Sunday 40-34 in overtime. The Jaguars spotted the Cowboys the first 14 points of the game, trailed 21-7 at the half and 27-10 late in the third quarter. But Jacksonville then scored three touchdowns in nine minutes, later forced OT with a field goal at the buzzer, then won it on a gift of a pick-6 off a deflection in extra time.

The Jags basically got out-played by Dallas for almost three quarters, then cashed in against the Cowboys’ prevent defense. Jacksonville eventually racked up 503 yards of total offense, including 192 on the ground, although it also gave up 397 yards of Dallas offense.

Jacksonville’s actually been out-gained by three of its last five opponents and out-rushed by four of its last five foes. But it’s also +4 on the turnover ratio over that span.

Two weeks ago, the Jaguars put on one of their best performances of this season, resulting in a 36-22 victory at Tennessee.

At 6-8 overall, Jacksonville now trails the first-place Titans by just one game in the AFC South. The Jags also own the head-to-head tie-breaker on Tennessee at the moment and get the Titans at home to finish the regular season.

New York, meanwhile, lugs a three-game losing skid into Thursday night after falling at home to Detroit Sunday 20-17. The Jets gave up the first seven points of the game on a Lions punt return for a score but took a 10-10 tie into the half. New York later took a 17-13 lead with just four minutes left but let Detroit hit a big one for a score on a fourth down with just under two to go, then missed a long field goal at the buzzer.

New York got out-gained by the Lions 359-337, out-rushed 107-50, lost time of possession by a 33:27 split, and committed the only turnover of the game, which led to a Detroit field goal.

In other words, the Jets' defense played well enough to win; the offense just didn’t do enough.

New York has actually out-gained three of its last four opponents. But it’s also been out-rushed by four of its last five foes, and it’s -4 on the TO ratio over that span.

Two weeks ago, the Jets gave Buffalo a tough game, lost 20-12 but covered at +10. Three weeks ago, New York reached the Minnesota red zone in the final minute but lost 27-22 and came up just short ATS at +3.

At 7-7 overall, the Jets trail Miami by one game in the battle for the No. 7 spot in the AFC playoff standings.

On the personnel front, New York will start Zach Wilson at quarterback Thursday night. Despite his struggles, the Jets are 5-3 both SU and ATS when he starts this season.

Common Opponents

These two teams have played three common opponents so far this season; the Broncos, Ravens, and Lions. New York played those foes to 1-2 both SU and ATS but +6 yards per game, Jacksonville to 1-2 SU and ATS but -93 YPG.
Jaguars at Jets Prediction ATS 12/22/22
Jacksonville rides Big Mo into Thursday night, following that crazy win over Dallas, but the Jaguars were also “good” enough to fall down by 17 points in that one. Also, that Jags' defense isn’t exactly stuffing opponents as of late. Meanwhile, New York’s hit some doldrums, but its defense will be the best unit on the field Thursday night. Also, Wilson wasn’t exactly terrible last week. The NFL is often a funny place, where what’s up one week is down the next, and vice versa, and this game gives us that feeling. We’re betting on the Jets in this spot.
