Green Bay at Atlanta Game Overview

The Packers made two trips to Atlanta last season and came up on the wrong end of the final score in both contests. They bring some solid momentum into Round 3 with last week’s 17-9 victory against Seattle as another big NFC power. Green Bay covered as a 2.5-point home favorite in that win and the total stayed UNDER the 49.5-point closing line. The Packers come into Atlanta with an even 4-4 record against the spread in their last eight road games going back to that 33-32 loss on Oct. 30 to the Falcons as three-point road underdogs.

Aaron Rodgers turned in a solid performance against the Seahawks last week by making the plays when he had to including a sweet 32-yard touchdown pass to Jordy Nelson to give Green Bay a 14-6 lead at the end of the third quarter that it never relinquished. The biggest takeaway for the Packers in this game could have been the play of their defense, which held Seattle to just 225 yards of total offense.

Atlanta needed a strong start to try and erase the memory of last season’s epic collapse against New England in Super Bowl LI. While the Falcons came away with a 23-17 road victory against Chicago in their season opener, this was hardly a convincing performance as 6.5-point favorites that they can move on from such a devastating loss. The total stayed UNDER 48.5 points against the Bears after going OVER in Atlanta’s final nine games last season.

If the Falcons are going to prove that they are still the top team in the NFC, then it is going to take a big night from Matt Ryan to get it done. He went a very efficient 21-for-30 against the Bears for 321 yards. His lone touchdown pass of the day was an 88-yard strike to Austin Hooper early in the fourth quarter to put Atlanta up for good. Julio Jones pulled down four catches for 66 yards, but Atlanta’s ground game behind Devonte Freeman only managed to gain 64 yards on 23 rushing attempts.

Green Bay Packers at Atlanta Falcons Week 2 Betting Prediction
Green Bay knows that to be the best team in the NFC it has to beat the best teams in the conference. Last week’s win against Seattle builds some huge momentum for this game fueled by the motivation factor of those two road losses to Atlanta last season. I still think that the Falcons are going to be mired in a Super Bowl hangover this season; however for the sole purpose of making money on this matchup I am going with the OVER 53.5 points on the total line as my “best bet” pick.
