Detroit is coming off a devastating loss to Green Bay last Thursday as they surrendered a 61-yard Hail Mary TD with no time left on the clock in a 27-23 loss. St. Louis lost their 5th-straight game Sunday, falling 27-3 to Arizona.

The switch to interim Off. Co. Jim Bob Cooter has really worked out for Detroit as QB Matthew Stafford and WR Calvin Johnson have both been beneficiaries of the switch. Stafford has thrown 12 interceptions on the season but none in the past 3 games. Johnson has 7 receiving TDs on the year but 4 in the last 2 games. This switch has had a positive effect on the whole offense as the once-dormant ground game has shown some signs of life. Rookie RB Ameer Abdullah has taken over the starter's role and has been effective over the past 3 games. The Rams gave up 175 rushing yards last week to a Cardinals team that was minus its top two rushers. WR Golden Tate and RB Theo Riddick both have 60+ catches so Stafford is doing a nice job of spreading the ball around but look for Johnson to be the focus.

St. Louis got nothing from QB Nick Foles last week so QB Case Keenum gets the start this week. This will also be the first game for new Off. Co. Rob Boras, who takes over for the fired Frank Cignetti. The passing game just hasn't clicked for the Rams as they have 1 passing TD during their current losing streak. The Lions give up an average of 242 passing ypg but won't fear this passing attack. Like other teams, they will stack the line to stop rookie RB Todd Gurley. He has totaled only 171 rushing yards over the past 4 games as teams know he is the only consistent weapon St. Louis has on offense. Detroit's run defense has improved greatly over the past month as they are allowing a meager 58.5 rushing yards per game over their last 4 games. They will also look to attack the offense on 3rd down, where the Rams rank 32nd in conversions (24.5%).

Free Detroit Lions at St. Louis Rams ATS Pick
Neither of these teams will make the playoffs but Detroit is still competing. They are playing hard for HC Jim Caldwell whose days with the team may be numbered. St. Louis isn't putting up any fight to save HC Jeff Fisher's job as 3 of their last 5 losses have been by 24 points each. I think the Lions will get the job done offensively and that their defense can contain Gurley to get this snake-bit franchise another win.
