Denver Broncos at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Odds - Point Spread Pick

Denver remained unbeaten with a big 29-17 come-from-behind win at Cincinnati last week. Tampa Bay was embarrassed at home 37-32 by Los Angeles last Sunday. The Rams hadn’t scored an offensive TD in their first two games but scored four on the Bucs.

The Broncos rode the hot hand of QB Trevor Siemian against the Bengals as he led two long 4th-quarter drives. He finished 23-35 for 312 yards and four TD passes. Tampa Bay has allowed an average of 270 yards passing per game in 2016 and that includes the 183 yards they surrendered to the Rams. WRs Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders have built a quick rapport with Siemian and both hit the 100-yard mark last week. The Bucs have one pick and five sacks in three games and will need to step it up to contain the surprising air attack of the Broncos. Tampa Bay’s run defense was good in their first two games (3.0 ypc) but they gave up 137 yards and two scores on the ground last week. Conversely, Denver ran well in their first two outings but was kept in check by Cincy (23 carries, 52 yards). This figures to be a key factor in the game; whether the Broncos can run effectively to keep the Buccaneers defense off balance.

Tampa Bay has had two games in which they scored 30+ points and one where they scored seven. QB Jameis Winston has put up numbers (929 passing yards, 8 TD passes) but he has also thrown six interceptions and lost two fumbles. Denver has done a good job of creating TOs this year and have 12 sacks (5 by OLB Von Miller) on the year. Winston has been sacked 5 times on 113 dropbacks so he is getting good protection from his o-line. Still I expect Miller and OLB Shane Ray (3 sacks last Sunday) to get pressure on Winston in this contest. RB Doug Martin is expected to miss this game so that means RB Charles Sims will get the lion’s share of carries. While the Broncos pass defense has been excellent in 2016, the same can’t be said of their run defense (124 ypg, 4.7 ypc). They will have to key on Sims as Winston is a much better QB when the running game is working.

Denver Broncos at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Prediction
This looks like a trap game for Denver this week but I’m not buying it. Coming off a big conference road win last week, the Broncos won’t take the Buccaneers lightly. Winston does commit TOs but he has some weapons on offense, namely WRs Mike Evans and Adam Humphries (19 catches, 232 yards, 1 TD last week). They know their run defense hasn’t been up to par but expect DC Wade Phillips to come up with a plan to contain Sims, a dangerous runner in his own right. Some questioned how Siemian would respond in his first road contest against a perennial playoff team last Sunday and he answered all the questions. The line is only a FG and I expect the more talented Broncos to get another cover on the road this week.
