Virginia Tech made its way into the latest AP poll on the strength of a resounding 54-17 victory against East Carolina on Sept. 24 as a 13-point home favorite. It also beat Boston College 49-0 as a 6.5-point favorite at home in its ACC opener. There is no doubt that first-year head coach Justin Fuente has made scoring a high priority in his offensive scheme with an average of 40.3 points a game, but the Hokies were held to 24 points against Tennessee in their only real test this year. They do have some solid balance with an average of 253.5 passing yards and 195.5 yards a game on the ground led by quarterback Jerod Evans (970 passing yards) and running back Travon McMillian (212 rushing yards).

The Tar Heels are back in the national rankings following a very impressive 37-35 road victory against Florida State this past Saturday as 10.5-point underdogs. This improved their record to 4-1 SU with the only loss coming against Georgia in Week 1. North Carolina is 3-2 ATS and the total has gone OVER in three of its first five games.

This is another offense that knows how to find the end zone with an average of 40.4 points a game. Most of the production has come through the air with an average of 348.2 passing yards a game. Junior quarterback Mitch Trubisky is off to a strong start with 1,711 passing yards and 13 touchdown throws while completing 76 percent of his 175 attempts. Even more impressive is the fact that he has yet to throw an interception this season.

Virginia Tech at North Carolina Prediction
I have been riding the Tar Heels the past few weeks both on the spread and the total line and cashing in as part of my ACC “best bet” of the week. After last week’s SU win I am not about to stop now at a very favorable betting spread against a Virginia Tech team that is slightly overrated in my book.
The Hokies come into this conference clash with one of their best teams in years, but I just cannot see Virginia Tech keeping pace with the Tar Heels on the scoreboard for all four quarters.
