Last week, we ran into early trouble when our Old Dominion -3 and Charlotte +1 plays failed to cash in when the Monarchs fell 24-21 against ECU, and the 49ers were clipped at home 45-27 by visiting Florida Atlantic. We were able to put together a nice win on our Miami Ohio -2 came through on a 34-20 win in Oxford. Had takers waited until Saturday to place their bets, the Redhawks would have been a stellar Money Line play cashing at +115 on many sportsbooks.

Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners at Texas-El Paso Miners Key Injury Concerns

Heading into this contest, Roadrunners Quarterback Frank Harris is listed as questionable for Saturday as he battles an ankle injury. Harris is UTSA's most dangerous offensive weapon. Should he be unavailable, that will only further gum up an offensive that already lacks explosiveness.

Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners at Texas-El Paso Miners Overview

Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners

Texas-San Antonio comes into this match on the heels of a three-game winning streak after opening its season with an optimistic 35-7 thrashing of Incarnate Word. Most recently, the Roadrunners fell at the hands of the North Texas Mean Green when they were thumped in Denton, two weeks ago. The Roadrunners were nowhere near close to covering as they were abolished 45-3 by UNT as a -17 underdog. UTSA has now not covered in three straight outings.

Like their counterparts heading into this affair, UTEP is also riding a three-game losing streak after its season opener against Houston Baptist where it found its only win this season. Though the Miners may have lost to Southern Miss when they met last Saturday, UTEP broke a six-game losing streak against the spread. Closing as a 25.5-point underdog, the Miners fell 31-13 in Hattiesburg to the Golden Eagles of Southern Mississippi.

Reasons To Avoid Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners

In this series, the road team is 6-0 ATS which says that the road team is ever more prone to be overvalued in this contest by the virtue of market correction. However, the road team has been so successful because they have been historically undervalued. Up until this point anyway, due to the fact that teams like UTSA or UTEP are not expected to win away from home, or if they do win, they do not do so convincingly. After all, these teams are both typically underdogs in most match-ups they play as they both hover around the 120s of the CBS Sportsline 130 poll. Very simply, you don't want to be laying a number here with either side as neither team has the pedigree to be favored and thus UTSA may easily crumble under the distinction.

Reasons To Back Texas-El Paso Miners

The Miners are 0-5 ATS in their previous five home games which further speaks into the trends and narratives discussed above. With this being established, Texas-El Paso is more bound to take back a favorable number as a result of their inability to profit on their own turf. With this consideration made, the market is still reluctant to give the Miners more than a field goal which resonates strongly with me. Had UTEP covered in any of their past five home stints, they would probably be favored here which means there is value present on the Miners.

Texas-San Antonio at Texas-El Paso Prediction 10/5/19
Make no mistake about this one; this is not going to be a battle of the titans by any means. This will be about as pedestrian and lackluster as any game one may come across. However, someone has to win, and my money is on UTEP to do just that. After all, Harris remains a question mark, and even if he is good to go, he will be spearheading the 126th-ranked scoring offense and will not be at 100%. This fact will undoubtedly put UTSA at a disadvantage. For UTEP however, there are not many games on its schedule that it may see as winnable. This match, however, is one game that the Miners know they can win and will be motivated to do so as they can end a rival’s recent supremacy in this series before whatever die-hards sweat this one out with the Miners.
